People are funny that way. They cling to their bibles and guns. And then if you declare war on them, they don’t want to vote for you.
Coal-heavy districts in West Virginia, Kentucky and Illinois that had been steadily moving away from Democrats in recent elections appear to have completed that shift Tuesday, when they overwhelmingly backed Republicans who vowed to oppose what they call President Barack Obamas war on coal.
In West Virginia, once a long-time Democratic stronghold, Republicans will take control of both houses of the state legislature for the first time since 1931. Republicans picked up seven seats in the state Senate to bring the balance to 17-17, and then Democrat Daniel Hall switched parties Wednesday to give the majority to the GOP.
Voters there also elected Rep. Shelley Moore Capito as their first GOP senator in 56 years, and Republicans won three congressional contests, even kicking out 38-year incumbent Rep. Nick Rahall.
Dems decided to get rid of coal. West Virginia decided to get rid of Dems.
It’s one of those blowback things that liberals are really good at explaining when it’s Muslims chopping heads, not so good at understanding when it’s Americans voting for Republicans.
I guess they thought coal miners were as much against coal as they are.
And don’t forget they’re smarter than you. That’s why they took over your health care. They’re smarter than your physician, too.
And before entering politics he was a partner in a New Jersey law firm that was pretty well connected in Republican politics.
Personally, I think Cory Booker and Chris Christie have made a number of backroom deals to help advance each other's political careers.
I think its great that the Democrats in coal producing states are being defeated, but what is the battle plan to revive coal jobs in the effected areas and will the Republicans follow through on that plan now that they’re in the majority?
I guess we'll be the last state to come to our senses.
I just hope I'm still alive when it happens.
Gonna have to abolish the EPA.
I ain’t buyin’.
Democrats absolutely knew the war on coal would cost them politically but the simply didn’t care. I believe that in their hubris they actually thought they could overcome that with the Obama coalition.
Keep on eye on Joe Manchin over the next 2 months. I think he may either become a Republican or Independent and ditch the Democrats.IOW, another worthless opportunist RINO...No thanks

The Mine Workers found out that not even Unions were sacred to the Democrats when they stand in the way of the Agenda.
Anyone involved in creating wealth, or in making a value-added product in America is fair game to the Dems because their industry is in the cross hairs.
Oh yeah, definitely, y’know, because ELECTRICITY IS FREE. ;’)
I’ll say it again, Pennsylvania is a VERY “red” state; the problem is overwhelming numbers of Philadelphia gibsmedats and suburban-Philadelphia nanny-staters. It’s going to take a lot of Whole Foods types having a Chris Matthews moment over the next couple of years for that to change.
FWIW, a few small coal mines in Colorado that had lied dormant for decades were put back to use maybe ten years ago, but are dormant again because of Obama and his EPA. They could be brought back on line again if they knew the road was clear.
How many election cycles did it take for those in coal country to step into reality? The positive side is that it did finally sink in.
We have over 350 years’ worth of coal energy right here in America. Why would anyone want to destroy that ?
The War on Coal is a matter of National Security.
How many wars and money has it cost us to ensure supplies from the Arab world?
If we could just give Philly to Jersey! That would be glorious!!!
