David Cameron has said he hopes to see a British Asian become prime minister in his lifetime.
Speaking at the GG2 awards, which celebrates Asian achievements, he added that there were "too few people from ethnic minorities in top positions".

He added: "When I hear those terms Your Honour, Brigadier General, Right Honourable, more often I want to hear it followed by a British-Asian name.
"And yes, one day I want to hear that title prime minister, followed by a British-Asian name."

I hope UKIP uses this endlessly in ads. Are they allowed to run those in the UK?
The Conservative Party now wants to outlaw any criticism of Sharia law and Jihadists
After this week anyone supporting the Tories is an enemy of civilization
he also wants to outlaw criticism of Islam and sharia law
The Tories also want to outlaw criticism of Islam and Sharia Law.
That is how you know who rules you, find out who you aren’t allowed to criticize.
Up the UKIP!
They’re thanking Mr. Cameron as we speak. He & Prince Charles are out getting fitted for their dishdashas.
;^)
And so do I.
One whose parents were born in Hong Kong.
Who cares if they are Muslim or not. The key point is they are an alien non-White people. Cameron is wishing for the indigenous White British to be ruled by non-Whites.
These ‘Asians’ may be citizens of the United Kingdom, and thus in the legal sense, ‘British,’ but they are in no real sense (defined by ancestry) British. David Cameron would not magically become African by plonking himself down in Liberia; the people Cameron is talking about did not magically become British, other than a description on their passport, by plonking themselves on that island.
Being Muslim would merely make them even more alien, and possibly hostile, but would not really alter the fact that they are alien people unrelated to the indigenous people.
I would have no objection to a PM coming out of the Hong Kong economic freedom tradition but that is not what the British mean when they say ‘Asian’ so I will say that I hope it would be either an Asian iconoclast or something of that sort. Otherwise it is the Mother Country committing suicide.
The ethnic British communities have been here en masse for almost 70 yrs, some like the black community have small groups in port cities going back to the 19th C.
Sikhs, Hindus, blacks and other non-white groups have been part of British life and culture for over 60 yrs, they have fought and died for Britain, entertained us on stage and film/TV, have won us Olympic golds, they completely changed our food. To mention a few things. Yes, we have had our race problems (nowhere near the scale of the US) and its hasn’t all been positive, but, again perhaps unlike the US, the positives have outweighed the negatives.
Despite the hysteria, based primarily from the US and based on an ignorance of modern Britain, we have handled and dealt with mass migration since WW2 far better than other countries, and has had far less racial problems. Yes, we have had and have some problems (black-white tensions in decades gone by, now the problem is extreme Islam)
The postwar immigrants and their descendants. They ARE British and have been for decades. All, and yes including Muslims until recently, assimilated into British life and culture. That was the secret of their success in the 1940’s to 1970’s. Assimiliation generally whilst retaining a proud part of their culture.
THEN we had the disasterous ideology of multiculturalism, its THAT which has caused the problems that the UK has now, by allowing self-segregation and cultural ghettos to arise, which has allowed extremism to flourish.
I have absolutely no problem with a black British prime minister or a PM of Indian descent (Sikh/Hindu) or one of other Asian blood. We in the UK have already had many prominent Asian politicians, from Sikh, Hindu, HK Chinese/Far Eastern and yes even Muslim.
A non white British Prime Minister dosent bother me and most British people, as long as they are honest and do well for the country, and love their country. And it is their country, as much as mine. For you to suggest that groups that have been here for almost 70 yrs, and are now 3rd/4th generation, are still not really British is nonsense.
With all due respect, very few Freepers know anything about the ethnic history of Britain. OR frankly much about modern Britain full stop. How the immigrant groups have been part of British life and culture since just after WW2. How groups assimilated into British life and culture.
It is both a yes and no to what we mean when we say Asian. The press being PC may use it to mask Muslim when writing about crime, BUT the British generally use it for ‘lumping in’ people from Asia, both the Indo-Pakistani peoples of S Asia, and Asia generally. The British will use it therefore to mean both a person from India but also Hong Kong.
This idea we use it only to secretly mean Muslim is simply not true. The press may do so, the British public dosent.
Charles is not a Muslim, or a Muslim sympathiser. Naturalman1975 here is a personal friend of Charles and has exposed this myth many times here, as have I.
Charles supports all faiths in the UK, but the rightwing US media focuses on any Muslim issue, so the impression given to you and Americans is that he’s a dhimmi Muzzie sympathiser. He isn’t. What he is is someone who in secular times publicly very strongly argues for religion in general, when many today sneer at it.
This very week he has publicly argued for more support to protect Christians against Muslim oppression in the Middle East. A story which was covered globally.
No, they don’t.
He was referring to those who have entered the country since Labour opened the doors to unlimited 3rd world immigration.
What “right-wing US media”? Please tell us where this is, we can’t find it.
And they want to close Christian schools that teach the truth about homosexuals too
A little slow on the draw, aren’t you Scotsman? (A little rightwing gunloon lingo there) It’s been hours since I posted, eh wot?
The Habsburg prince in Muslim getup (photos exist) isn’t very convincing as to your argument for his Christianness, I fear. His call for ISIS thugs to not be so beastly towards “infidels” is ringing all hollow in the lands under their grinding heels.
A plot against the Royal Family has only just now been foiled, thanks to the British police. Anjem Choudary’s passport has been yanked (he wants to go to the Islamic state & renounce his British citizenship, so what the h*** does he need that passport for?) and please address the growing popularity of UKIP.
Oh...but to do that you would have to acknowledge that “this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England” has deep serious problems engendered by the Muslims in its midst. And that would demolish the notion that U.K. is an inherently superior place to the land of us bloody colonials with all our guns, would it not?
“We owe allegiance to no crown!”
By rightwing media (which isn’t pejorative, as I am rightwing myself) I mean the likes of Fox News, talk radio ie Rush, Savage and sites like this, as well as other sites/blogs.
As I said, nothing pejorative about it. Just as MSNBC, NPR etc are clearly liberal/leftwing. And if I described them as such, calling them leftwing wouldn’t pejorative either.
1—Yes, I am slow, you should know that by know. After all, I am an inbred Brit, lol. And I am also slow on the draw, being a UK gun owner. Oh, you did know I am a gun owner and pro-gun, didn’t you?.
BTW, it was Saturday night. Some of us still go out and have fun.
2—Yes, Charles has been dressed in Muslim gear. But he’s has also been dressed in Sikh headdress, with a Jewish shawl and yamulk and other faith dress. Yet the US media obsesses with his supposed love of Islam. There are people here who actually think he is Muslim or is about to convert. Lunacy.
3—UKIP?. You mean the party I support?. Isnt it great to see a real conservative party in the UK for the first time in 20 yrs?.
4—Yes, the UK has problems with Islam. We see that again just this week. NOBODY here of the UK, either myself or Winniesboy or Vanders has said otherwise. BUT the problems, whilst serious and needing to be tackled and eradicated, are not as apocalyptic as portrayed here or by the more rightist US media.
Its not the idea we are all perfect and hunky-dory we write about, its to correct the frankly OTT hysteria from the US right, be it talk show hosts or just normal freepers, about how terrible the UK is. Of course hysteria from people who don’t live here, don’t visit (and never have and sadly probably never will-—we’d welcome our Stateside cousins) and get their grasp of Britain from what FR, Fox News, Rush and Savage or Pamela Geller tells them. IF you/they actually came here, you would be surprised to see a nation whose undoubted problems are not quite as hellish as you might believe.
It gets very tiring to be lectured by people from a country which has very serious problems of its own. With all due respect, Americans really should be the last people criticising anyone else about violence, extremism and societal problems. A ten year old has just beaten a 90 yr old to death in your nation. The phrase ‘clean up your own pigsty’ is somewhat applicable at the moment.
