The first female combat veteran. A daughter of Haitian immigrants. A 37-year old Harvard wunderkind. The youngest woman ever.
Its an array that in past years might have sounded like the stuff of a Democrats dream press release, but its actually a sampling of just a few of the much-talked-about Republicans who won contested races Tuesday night.
As the dust settles after their rout of Democrats, the GOP can boast of an influx of dynamic congressional talent that looks younger and more heterogeneous than ever.
That new GOP freshman class includes Joni Ernst, the first woman to represent Iowa in Congress and a company commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom; Tom Cotton of Arkansas, who at 37 will be the youngest member of the Senate; Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, who will serve as the states first female senator; and newly promoted former Reps. James Lankford (age 46) and Cory Gardner (age 40). Originally appointed in 2012, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina also just became South Carolinas first elected black senator.
Republican candidates made history in the House as well. Utahs Mia Love isnt just the first Haitian American to serve in Congress shes the first black GOP congresswoman ever. At age 30, New Yorks Elise Stefanik is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. With his 10 point win over incumbent Democrat Tim Bishop, Lee Zeldin will replace defeated former Majority Leader Eric Cantor as the bodys only Jewish Republican.

Woar on wymun!!! The republicans has it....
The bench is getting deeper. Let’s keep these waves coming.
With the Democrats, it’s still just about classes of people and not their ideas. They just don’t get it. They see America as separate peoples grouped together just because they are of the same race, or gender.
I never thought I'd see the day ...
Thank-you for this post. I was wondering about this aspect of our “big tent. “
In southern AZ where I live, Jewish people are heavily represented in conservative radio, Garrett Lewis and Charles Heller, and a black man originally from Wisconsin, James T. Harris is my favorite drive time afternoon pundit, and is right now raging that Cantor and Boehner came into our primary to influence the outcome.
Unfortunately, they are trying to foist a representative that looks good on paper to the GOP, but she has no credibility and is a blank slate. Her naked ambition is off-putting. Conservatism is not gender-specific, but apparently moderate Republicanism is-—for a purposes of being a show-pony.
I never thought I'd see the day ...
And every one you mentioned a multi-deca-millionaire, after a lifetime of being in politics.
The Democratic Party looks like a ward for the geriatric Left - and it shows.
Its cool to be a Republican.
Notice how the media doesn’t talk about Abortion Barbie and how she got her abortion loving ass KICKED last night..and not only did she lose badly, but more woman voted for Abbott than her..gee, but according to the media, all women love abortion/sarc
But in New Hampshire, the Democrat Senatoress won her contest.
Jeanne Shaheen proved that old adage that: As goes New Hampshire, so goes New Hampshire.
Obama may have been right about one thing. "Americas greatest days are still to come."
I'll tell you something else - Andrea Doria Mitchell needs to retire - HD TV big screen telivisions do her no favors at all - she looks like Ramses' mummy !
That just reinforces the point that the national political scene has turned completely upside down. Now it’s the Democrats who are run by old rich white people. LOL.
This news really makes my day. In addition to the election results (especially in the Florida Governor’s race), it is so good to hear about all these refreshing new members of the Republican party. I’m very proud.
Like my daughter said this morning:
“The economy is CRAP. There are fewer opportunities for everyone. Gas prices are still outrageous and have been for years. What insurance people can afford, doesn’t do anything for them...
“AND THE FREAKING DEMOCRATS THINK THAT ALL *I* CARE ABOUT IS *ABORTION*!! How insulting!!”
My Mom has four female friends(All in their 60s), all four of them are Democrats..they told my Mom that they won’t vote Republican because “Republicans will take away their right to abort” and my Mom looked at them and said “Your in your 60s, what abortion are you having?” With liberals, its all about baby murder, non-stop, its all they live for..yesterday that moron Scarlett Johannson tweeted out about how Republicans want to take away their right to choose..then I hear on TV that this same woman just had a baby girl two months ago..she has a baby two months ago yet she is talking about murdering babies..its just plain sick!
Hyphenation is so un-American!
It wasn't so much a plantation as a medieval fife. Their pet minorities got there by jumping every time their lord said they were frogs. That is partly why they voted in lockstep.
Joni Ernst, Lee Zeldin and Tom Cotton were all Army officers, James Lankford ran the largest Christian Camp in the USA, Tim Scott owns an insurance agency, Mia Love was a flight attendant, Elise Stefanik worked in the family business, these people are the American Middle Class. Tell them that they are frogs and they will laugh at you.
Sometimes I wonder about the rich leftists. They don’t have to worry about getting a quality education for their kids or making ends meet. They’re the same ones that bust on poor people for going to Walmart to stretch a dollar. They don’t worry about paying the rent or scraping together enough change to put gas in their tank to get to work.
Abortion is the only thing that they have to think about and they cannot possibly empathize with a woman who has bigger problems.
They just show themselves to be out-of-touch fools.
Equally, neither do the members of the GOPe.
