First, I want to make one thing perfectly clear: It is the stated position of Erick and the mods that Red State advocates voting for the most conservative candidate in the primaries, and the Republican in the general election. I agree with that, and it is not my intent here to troll or disrupt. Anyone who has read my earlier diaries knows that. However, if those in charge feel this diary strays over the line, they should take it down.
People, this is MISSISSIPPI. This is totally different. What has happened here is an abomination. Everyone here knows what was done to Chris McDaniel in the primary and the run-off. The Republican establishment used the vilest, most despicable tactics to renominate a senile fool to the US Senate. They committed massive electoral fraud; they stole the election.
Three months ago, disgusted at what had just occurred in the Magnolia State, I posted a diary, actually, more of a diatribe:
So, would it really be THAT bad if we dont win the Senate in November?
http://www.redstate.com/diary/gawken/2014/06/27/really-bad-dont-win-senate-november/
To my utter astonishment, it was promoted to the front page ( first time ever) and received 140 comments. The majority agreed with my sentiments, and shared my frustrations and disgust.
Since that time, McDaniel has lost several attempts to have the election overturned, and is awaiting the outcome of one last, albeit long-shot court ruling. State law requires that the ballots be printed very soon.
It now appears, less than 5 weeks out, that the Republicans will win control of the Senate. GOP seats in Kentucky and Georgia that were earlier deemed at risk now appear safe. It could well turn into a wave election for the GOP. As we get closer, the polls will be even more accurate. By mid October, we should be able to get a better sense of the size of the incoming Republican majority.
If Cochran is reelected, then the GOPe wins, big time. They literally will get away with stealing an election. And most likely, within a year, Cochran will retire, and Haley Barbour will hand pick his successor.
McDaniel and his supporters have declared war on the state GOPe, and vowed to dismantle the party establishment in 2015. I wish them success. It is long overdue.
But if indeed, this is a war, then why not let it begin now?
With a preemptive strike!
The GOP base, the Tea Party, social conservatives in Mississippi are highly organized and motivated. McDaniels primary campaign demonstrated that.
So, if were some ten days from election day, and all the polls look good, then its easy to use the internet and social media to get the message out to McDaniels supporters:
1. Vote for Childers, or
2. Dont vote for any senate candidate.
That should be more than enough to elect Childers.
I suspect Childers will be a far more moderate senator..I cant see him running to do Reids or Schumers bidding.
Haley Barbour awoke a sleeping giant. Time to pay the piper!
And I would remind all of you that if the GOP establishment gets away with this, theyll pull out all the stops to keep a real conservative from getting nominated for the White House. Why do you think we are all of a sudden hearing all this talk about more Mitt?
For a multitude of reasons, its time to put Cochran out to pasture, even if doing so requires electing a Democrat.
I forgot to mention. I think a great tactic would be to call up Cochran’s and McConnell’s campaigns and yell at them to apologize to Conservatives—if the men want our votes.
I just attribute all these purist litmus threads to voter suppression trolls and useful idiots helping voter suppression.
Imagine what happens when you have a Senator Cruz as chairman of a committee.
Imagine what happens when republicans now have senate subpoena powers.
What committee will Ted Cruz be chairing? The cloak room? He has no seniority and is hated by the GOPe.
The House has subpoena power. They’ve done nothing with it. The Senate GOP is worse. Much worse.
Actually, you are the purist. Demanding party line voting of those Mississippians has been called racist and disenfranchised by Dems voting in their GOP primary. I don’t blame them if they take a powder until 2016. The GOP is also doing that with their no substance “opposition” to the obama agenda.
Nothing to get worked up about here with the GOP punting until 2016. Time to move along to the next issue.
This might be a strategy if the GOP pickup of the Senate was a slam dunk. Its not so vote for Cochran—still better than the Dem albeit with caveats already well known.
Why are we hearing nothing about the Mississippi Race? Is Cochran even campaigning? I hear that the Mississippi Dems are fired up; thinking they have a shot at that seat.
Thad Cochran will serve for one year and then resign and Haley Barbour will make sure that one of his nephews is appointed to that seat. Just hide and watch.
” calling good, passionately solid conservatives voter suppression trolls is a stupid move.”
What would YOU call people who are calling themselves “conservatives” while ardently advocating for election and victory of Democrats, and keeping Harry Reid and Obama in power?
Do you live in Mississippi? If so, is it remotely possible that Childers could win?
No, and I don’t know. My comments are based on a boader national level of distrust for RINO’s and how they collude with democrats against conservatives.
Sick?
Ok. Then enjoy losing.
These people, no matter how much we find it distasteful, know how to take off the gloves.
We sit all self-righteously on our butts and hiss at them for playing “dirty”.
The Germans used masterful tactics against the Soviets in WW2, and they almost won until the other side decided to get brutal themselves, and not just crying over how underhanded the Germans were.
You want to win a political war? Then learn to go to war like they are. Whining abut them isn’t going to get you a win. And in this case it sure as heck didn’t do much.
Well, not being dumb as a stump, my first move would not be to FALSELY INSULT my fellow conservatives with whom I disagreed. You don’t win people over to your POV that way. You simply cement their opposition and ignite their antipathy.
Now if I held your view, and I wanted to actually accomplish something, the first thing I would do is to state that I understood the other conservatives’ position. I.e.: establish a modicum of common ground, which lies not in *agreement* but in simply understanding. I doubt you do or even *can* truly grasp the opposition to your stance, so that option is out/unavailable to you.
So all you can really do is NOT totally alienate fellow conservatives who see this issue differently from you, while at the same time making the strongest case you can for the course of action you recommend. Notice what is missing? The insults. They are counterproductive. If you have two brain cells to rub together, drop that approach ASAP.
Otherwise, here’s a really fun option for you. Take a true conservative with whom you disagree—I volunteer for this experiment—and do this. Insult them, insult them some more, and then just keep on insulting them. Ask them to let you know when you have sufficiently insulted them to win them over to your POV.
As I said, I’d be delighted to volunteer. More fun than a barrel of monkeys.
So according to you, we should learn how to play the race card twice as dishonestly, shamefully and nauseatingly as Cochran’s team did. Then play it relentlessly against any fellow Republican we wish to defeat.
Sick.
Sick sick sick sick sick.
Well that was stupid. Were I in MS I would not vote for Reid.
Thanks for getting to the heart of the matter...well written[said].
When all is said and done and the smoke clears, ALL FReepers still need to be able to join one another for future battles.
These kinds of threads/comments can make it all but impossible to do so because once bitten, twice shy.
In the future, why would I align myself with someone with whom I am now in disagreement?
Who clearly doesn’t respect/understand me or my position enough to treat me with some basic common decency, courtesy and respect?
As long as conservatives can be counted on to support the GOPe candidate even if he illegally stole the election, more elections will be stolen. Political gains take generations. If you can’t plan any farther than the current election you’ll always be the enemy’s pawn.
Unbelievable. It’s like no one gets it.
Ok, lets here your grand plan to combat these people.
And if it involves some folksy platitudes or depends on prayer, then just say you have no idea.
Agree that Collins is less than optimal. But she did vote against Obamacare, the Porkulus and Harry Reid which makes her preferable to any of her Democrat challengers.
Nothing in life is perfect, least of all politics.
Politics are blood sport. Always have been.
People only understand ruthless force.
You want them to respect and understand you, then you need to be as ruthless as they are.
Precisely.
Elections and politics is a dirty messy ugly business.
RR himself one said politics is the world’s second oldest profession. No truer words have ever been spoken.
Does anyone seriously think Childers would make a better senator than Cochran? Are people simply supporting him out of spite? Which is pretty damned childish if you ask me, especially in an election with so much at stake.
I don’t see it as a knife in my back.
I see it that entrenched incumbents usually win. So this race was no exception to the rule.
