ASPEN, Colo. Aspen Elementary School officials want students to be quiet during their 20-minute lunch, and have imposed a new set of rules and penalties for talkative youngsters to keep down cafeteria chatter.
Many parents, however, are speaking up about the policy, which was outlined in a school newsletter that was recently sent home with students. School administrators reportedly told students they must use a 1-inch rule to speak during their lunch, meaning they can only open their mouths one inch to whisper, according to the Aspen Times.

Hmm
Government schools. What could go wrong?
and after these 12 year olds are quiet at lunch they can go down to the nurses office for condoms.
I can see it now....
School lunch ladies running around with rulers to measure the open mouths of 7 and 8 year olds.
Idiocy. Sheer, unabated, liberal idiocy.
‘Twould appear that Aspen and Boulder have the same water source.
So even at that age schools are trying to quell discussion and comparing notes?
Friggin’ control freaks.
I guess the teacher union couldn’t take the kids chattering and rolling on the floor laughing about what they were being taught!
No tag at recess???
Silent lunches???
And I thought it was lame in the 80s when they banned us from throwing snowballs.
I'd rather the kids be rebels than robots.
What a stupid school.
I seem to recall that policy in parochial grade school for a while.
Of course they want to talk.
They sure as hell don’t want to eat Moochies lunch menu!.............
They so need to start firing some of these “teachers” and administrators
Cut their damn water off . . . get them out
When I was in junior high school we were always getting into trouble for being too loud during lunch. At least half of the school year we were condemned to silent lunches. If we were too loud in the hallways while changing classes that also became a no talking zone.
It is long past time to abolish government schools.
Privatize the entire business ... our children are far to important to be entrusted to unionized government thugs.
STUPID .gov .nazi BS
Now back to the Bathroom floor job, for some reason reading this makes Me think of $&!T
There vil be no talking during lunch!
How silent could it be with people blowing whistles?
If I were one of the parents, I’d send my kid to school with a blow horn, so that when the teacher spoke, my kid could silence the teacher (of course my kid would get in trouble...).
Lunch time is usually a social time for students. This just teaches them to be anti-social. I suppose when these kids grow up and become parents, they will blow whistles to silence their kids.
Our education system sucks! Amended: Our school system apparently blows!
