“Doctors say” is usually followed by a bunch of BS.

What do they know?

If you recovered or mostly recovered from a viral disease, wouldn’t you be immune? At least unless the virus mutated significantly?

Smith said the public shouldn't be concerned that his Ebola has returned.

Yeah, we were told we shouldn't be concerned about Ebola coming to America too.
With all the incompetence we've seen so far, I don't think I'd be taking Smith's reassurances to the bank.

The revenge of enterovirus D-68.

Can you imagine surviving Ebola only to succumb to enterovirus?

“Doctors do not think it likely that Sacra, who has been suffering from a persistent cough and low-grade fever for several days, has suffered a relapse of Ebola.”

The cured ebola guy now has a respiratory illness — but don’t worry! Everyone knows that ebola cannot possibly be spread that way! It’s settled science.

The ICU at Umass Memorial is the best.

My wife almost died from severe acute pancreatitis when her lungs were pressed down by fluids until they put her on an experimental infant ventilator that kept her lungs inflated until the pressure was relieved.

The game of Ebola Roulette continues...

*click* spin *click* spin *click* spin…BANG!

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

We’re gonna need

a bigger cart!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

What am I missing? I had no idea another doctor with Ebola was transported back here four weeks ago and kept in Nebraska. I though it was only the two missionary docs from back in August who were at Emory in Atlanta. .

Suffering a relapse?
Polio, hepatitis, herpes, HIV all caused by virus - promise lifetimes of relapses. But ebola is special and relapse is impossible.

The good news is that you posted something fresh, this is new territory and I’m interested in what we might learn from this guy, it could just be another common illness he has, or maybe we are going to learn something new.

He is sure a good patient for information gathering.

Isn’t this why they refer to doctor’s as “practicing”?

I think this was the doctor who received antibodies only from Dr. Brantley.

I don’t think he received serum because there was none left.

I’m the next town over from this yank off. It sounds like his immune system is compromised and he has pnemonia.

Don’t know this doctor’s story or who he is, but I’ve read for years now that those who do live through Ebola are NOT healthy people anymore, at least for a long time and maybe ever. “Immune compromised” is just the start of it. So actually this story could be completely on the up and up. Ebola survivors could probably be killed by a hard cold.
