CBS Hillary Clinton Show Loses 1/3 Younger Viewers by 2nd Episode
FrontPage Mag ^ | 09/30/2014 | Daniel Greenfield

Madam Secretary, CBS’ 100 million dollar Hillary infomercial, wasn’t doing too well with younger viewers to begin with.

You would think that 60 Minutes with its senescent cast of droners would have less younger viewers than Madam Secretary, but don’t count out the Hillary magic.

The current ratings show that Madam Secretary lost 4 million 60 Minutes viewers and lost half of its younger 18-49 viewers. That’s the demo prized by advertisers and Madam Secretary is going to have trouble staying on the air if it can’t get them to tune in.

Younger voters are also an obvious target for the Hillary 2016 campaign which is what Madam Secretary is really an ad for. That’s why CBS’s version of Hillary Clinton is being played by a woman twenty years younger than her.

When your demographics are older than 60 Minutes, you know your TV show and your campaign are in big trouble.

Now it’s doing even worse with the handful of younger viewers it still hadn’t alienated.

The latest ratings show that Madam Secretary’s 2nd episode is down to a 1.4 rating among the demo, viewers 18-49, down from 2.0.

Up against the premiere of the Simpsons and Once Upon a Time, which had demo ratings of 3.9 and 3.4, Madam Secretary performed as miserably as Hillary did as Secretary of State.

The overall series has lost 2 million viewers with its 2nd episode. That doesn’t look very promising. Its overall ratings aren’t catastrophic yet, but CBS is obsessive about retaining younger viewers. It already does well with older viewers.

Madam Secretary can’t afford to keep losing viewers 18-45 or it’s toast. It’s already drawn down to Good Wife and CSI level ratings in the demo. If it keeps falling beyond that, it hits Blue Bloods territory. Any further and it’s gone.

By way of comparison, Scorpion, CBS’ new drama, pulled in a 3.20 demo. NCIS New Orleans debuted with a 2.50 in the demo.

Robin Williams’ Crazy Ones got the ax after a season finale that pulled in a 1.30 in the demo. Hostages was canceled after dropping below 1.00 in the demo. Intelligence was canceled after a 1.20 in the demo.

Madam Secretary is performing with younger viewers like a show that’s been on the air for five years. At best. And that’s not a good thing.

The question is how much money is CBS willing to lose to promote Hillary Clinton?

The 12 million who are watching are the 50 year old + viewers who tend to vote more reliably. I don’t think this is necessarily good news.

Exactly. The demographic they are looking for no longer watches tv the way our generation did. I don’t watch tv the same way. I don’t keep track of when or what network shows are on. I usually watch everything when and where I want via my ipad.

Your wife was probably looking for the Good Wife which starts at 9 o’clock but was on later during football.

Sunday night shows
7 - 60 Minutes
8 - Madam Secretary
9 - The Good Wife
10 - CSI

Your wife must watch all those shows but the new Madam Secretary.....but all these shows start later than in the TV guide due to football.

All of it. They know they will get a 'entertainment bailout' later.

“CBS’ publishing company advanced Hillary $8 million on her new book.
Think that wasn’t a campaign contribution ?”

Considering that her book actually sold about 10 copies (and that was to family members), I would say that’s a YES! :-)

They were beating the drum for this series back in June, I recall seeing commercials for it then. And it’s so pathetically transparent that it’s an infomercial.

The democrat/communist news/entertainment/academia propaganda complex rolls on. They are no different than the Agitprop hacks that once permeated every institution in the old Soviet Union. And like the old USSR, nobody watches, cares, or pays attention.

CBS's 'knee pad' brigade needs to ask this question:

IF Hillary was elected President...

AND BILL CLINTON HAD A HEART ATTACK AND DIED the day Hillary was elected...

... would CBS be pushing for Hillary for President today?

Hillary's most impressive 'qualification' was her marriage to Bill Clinton...

Seems narcissists at CBS want a 'get around' of the Twenty-second Amendment... They want a third term for Bill Clinton... If that's NOT it -maybe CBS could give us a list of Hillary's accomplishments...

If the main character was a fat whiny Woman nobody would watch it. Even looking at Tia Leone will get old.

If it was sunday night on cbs the football game could have backed everything up by finishing late.

I wonder about CBS' confidence in the show if they put it on in the late Sunday "death slot". Almost everything ends up getting canceled when it is in that time slot because of football delays. If you set your DVR to record a show in that slot, you usually get part of The Good Wife, then part of the following show minus the last 15 or so minutes. My wife and I found this to be the case when attempting to DVR Shark, The Mentalist and Unforgettable. Hopefully, Madam Hillary will be gone by mid-season.
