COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine released a surveillance video Wednesday showing John Crawford III being shot to death by police last month in a Dayton-area Walmart.

DeWine's release of the video and 9-1-1 recording coincided with a Greene County grand jury finding that Beavercreek police were justified in shooting the 22-year-old man, whom they believed was armed with a rifle.

In the footage, Crawford is seen talking on a cell phone and waving what turned out to be an air rifle at the end of a store aisle. Police arrived after a 9-1-1 caller reported that a man was waving around a gun and pointing it at people.

and this 17 yr old shot five kids killing three swinging his gun in a school...they didn't know he was going to shoot either.

They sell these so-called “guns” at the Walmart. That’s where he picked it up. It was an air rifle.

If it’s so dangerous, then why is Walmart selling them in an area that permits anyone to pick one up and then continue shopping while holding it?

That makes no sense.

Who would think that you can buy an air rifle at a Walmart and then be shot for swinging it back and forth while you’re standing alone in an aisle?

The caller overreacted, and the police didn’t assess the situation properly. As a result, two people died.

I watched.

The first responding officer was outside the training protocols for the situation that existed at the time he entered the situation. He heard no shots....no information any had been fired. He approached and responded at maximum threat level...Active Shooter. There’s a problem. But it’s not a race issue. It’s a training and judgement issue. He owns this cluster imho.

I watched the video twice and I never saw him 'Point" the gun at anyone. He looked like he was talking on the phone and flipping it around as he was talking.

If the 911 caller's audio is synched up with the video then he outright lied and said the Guy with the gun pointed it at kids.

Then the cops show up the door opes and they shoot him.

Trigger happy cops and a lying 911 caller and some idiot who wasn't even aware other people were around him.

Now the cops are going to call this a righteous shoot. So I have a test. Would a C&C shooter in the same exact incident have the shooting declared a righteous shoot by the cops?

We all know the C&C shooter would have been arrested and charged with murder. Because the tape clearly shows he never pointed it directly at anyone.

I slowed the video down and it looked like Crawford dropped the gun and dove behind the end of the aisle when he saw or heard the cops. He then got up and moved toward the gun and the one police officer, and I’m guessing that’s when he was fatally shot. That’s my theory. I don’t know if it’s right because I can’t tell for certain what was said or when the shots were fired just by looking at the video.

Or.....I see it’s the caller’s fault for seeing someone swinging a gun around.

or it’s the fault of the police for taking a call seriously enough, knowing this has happened in the past and people died, to shoot him down before he unloaded.

No matter how this whole event plays out....you can be certain it will not go well for gun holders...nor for the police who will have their hands tied even more.
