Education School tells Missouri boy his 9/11 souvenir violates school weapons policy
A souvenir shell casing handed out by veterans at a 9/11 ceremony landed a seven-year-old Missouri boy in hot water when he took the keepsake to school.
Sherry Falke said her son, Zane, forgot he had the souvenir in his pocket when he showed up for class on Tuesday, Fox4KC.com reported. The boy was given the souvenir at a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony in Carrollton, Mo.
"He felt it in his pocket, and he took it out and was showing some of his friends at school," Falke told the station.
"The principal proceeded to reprimand him as though he were bringing live ammunition to school," she said. "I understand that's in the policy, in the handbook, that they cant bring guns to school. I fully support that, but it's an empty blank casing."
Falke said her son's teacher seized the shell casing and took him to the principals office. She claims they Zane he could be suspended from school for 10 days, but instead gave him a silent lunch where he sat by himself and missed two recesses.
Without a doubt! A forty cent plastic Bic pen would work almost as well as the forty dollar Uzi pen.
Ask the boy
how it was emptied,
Who cares?
or whether its been tampered with in some half-assed attempt at reloading.
At his age probably reloaded with dirt.
exposes the flaw in your entire premise that the school administration was "correct" in applying a punishment to this boy.
By their very response and actions, they demonstrated that they; a) aren't trained and b) "professional".
“Ponder this - the teachers did over-react, overstepping the bounds of their own policy manuals....and now they are generically saying it was against the rules, without citing exactly what rule it was against.”
You just quoted the rule. The teacher had no way of knowing it was a spent casing until they confiscated and inspected it. Even then it falls under “the like” and the teacher had no choice but to escalate it to the principal. Then it’s the principal’s discretion on how to enforce the policy. He gave the boy two days of silent lunch.
They followed the rules. Folks here don’t agree with the rules, but they’re designed for student safety. And as Janet Napolitano would say ... “the system worked”.
Or, if you break a nail off on the ring. Then you have to get a screw driver to pry the damn thing up.
You are thinking about Corned Beef Hash... doesn’t it still have the 1000 turn key that breaks 40 percent of the way through? LOL
Same thing in Thailand. I still have a P-38 I picked up back then, when eating Korean C-Rats out in the boonies. Kind of heavy on the fat, but not inedible. I've eaten worse.
On this much I agree. This is a matter of ignorant morons running the public schools and mindlessly adhering to policies that excuse them from the act of thinking. So-called 'zero tolerance' policies are for idiots who can't be trusted to make informed and mature decisions. It speaks poorly about your judgment of your own capabilities that you'd promote reliance on such policies over the utilization of sound judgment.
“...or whether its been tampered with in some half-assed attempt at reloading...”
Anyone with at least a little intelligence could look at the casing and tell it had NOT been reloaded...*LOL*
And I got “silent lunch” for poking a kid with one in 1975. So tell me this zero-tolerance business is new.
“Its not a 2nd Amendment issue at all”
I disagree.
There is a wave of anti-gun lunacy in our schools. This is just another example.
Guns are legal. But our kids are being taught that they are incredibly evil - and every week we have another absurd example of hyper-enforcement of anti-gun rules in school.
Do you think its an accident?
Do you think the anti-gun proponents (some of whom are billionaires) are just merrily skipping down the street, wondering when gun control will happen?
I happen to believe that this cabal of billionaires is not sitting idly by. Rather, I believe they are using their money and influence to impact the underwriters who insure school districts, which ultimately leads to schools being strong armed into codifying absurd anti-gun rules...and, in this case, absurdly enforcing non-existent gun rules, because no doubt the teachers have been forced to sit through a general gun hysteria class.
So yeah, when you read about a pop tart being grounds for discipline, it isn’t just a zany story...it is absolutely about the 2nd amendment.
You’re too dumb to be a Freeper. Buh-bye.
IBTZ. See ya' later, troll.
Would you favor giving these children actual metal scissors, or are you the kind who would have them use the rounded, plastic kind? And how about sharpened pencils? Maybe restrict them to well-used crayons? And certain no ball-point pens. Or compasses! Heaven knows what they would do with such instruments of havoc.
Yes, the kid broke the rules. Some rules are stupid and should be broken at every opportunity.
*ROFL*
No, the statement I posted that included “and the like” was the reporter’s statement...
...and after researching the rule myself, I can only conclude that the reporter’s statement is not based in fact whatsoever.
In subsequent posts to you, I have shown that the rules in no way prohibit an empty casing.
So my statement still stands - and is still accurate.
Aww man...how are we going to “educate” the morons if they keep getting the zot?
At least you let us play with it for a while...
Thank you.
*LOL* That HAS to be him....*L*
