Texas has become epicenter of conservative movement
The Washington Post ^ | September 20, 2014 | Dan Balz, Chief correspondent

AUSTIN — Twenty years ago this November, Texas elected George P. Bush’s uncle as governor. That election cemented Republicans in power in the Lone Star State after a steady period of ascendance.

Democrats haven’t won a statewide elective office since and their candidates for governor (state Sen. Wendy Davis) and lieutenant governor (state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte) are currently seen here in Texas as underdogs this fall.

In the two decades since George W. Bush became governor, the Republican Party here has turned several shades redder. Texas might qualify now as the epicenter of the conservative movement across the country. Here is just one example.

George P. Bush is the grandson and nephew of two presidents and the son of a former governor who is a possible presidential candidate in 2016. He is running for land commissioner in Texas this fall. His campaign symbolizes the steady rightward drift of the Republican Party in the Lone Star State.

The younger Bush carries one of the most famous names in American politics but other than the name, he is hardly basing his message on the legacy of his famous relatives. Even someone named Bush, apparently, is cautious about running as a Republican in Texas on the platform and principles of the kinder-gentler party of the family patriarch, former president George H.W. Bush.....

When they say conservative they subtly mean racist red neck on lib language.

Frankly I am sick of the hypocrisy of these rags and liberals.

True to form, the prejudiced liberal has to either be completely racist or display self hate in order to deal with foreigners or people of color. But when it comes to call Texas epicenter of conservatism, they display both self hate (antiAmerican) and racism in their war against men and women of all colors who bear arms.

“Texas needs to finally make good on their century old threat to secede.”

Too late. The window for secession closed about 30 +\- years ago. Too many transplants here now. About 90% of Texas residents now live within 100 miles of I-35 which means they live, work within this long suburban and urban cocoon and have little or no cultural connection with what it means to be Texan.

Just rename UT as Texas A&M - Austin. The lefties will flee in droves.

I wouldn’t consider Perry presidential material. He stepped in it again when he defended his Texas Dream Act (the one that essentially gives Illegals a free ride at our universities).

He seems to take one step forward (talking about securing the border) and then two steps back (good ole Rick on Amnesty).

So join me on November 4 or in early voting and leave blank the office of land commissioner.

George P. is as likely to be elected land commissioner as the sun is to rise on Nov. 4.

You left off El Paso and probably Corpus Christi too (but it may be less so).

FDR did a lot to expand government, but he was far sighted in his understanding of the Nazi threat in the 1930’s when conservatism was isolationist. Government may (and I’m afraid probably will) continue to expand and degrade freedom, but the Nazi’s almost certainly would have become the world’s imperialist master if not effectively opposed by the British Empire, Russia (after they were attacked), and the United States.

This would have been a fitting headline, maybe 20 years ago.

And George P. Bush is a RINO like the rest of the family, a RINO (or a liberal democrat for that matter) talking conservative to get elected is also not a new phenomenon.

Sounds like Mr. Balz had a deadline for a column, so he wrote this shite.

Yes, Wilson’s evil will also be hard to rid ourselves of. The Federal Reserve and the IRS are perhaps the two worst creations of all time, while Wilson also laid the blueprints for the UN. Wilson, FDR, and LBJ make up the triumvirate of the worst American Presidenfs, IMO.

It is interesting to note how conservatism after Wilson was very isolationist until WWII, and that the isolationist wing of liberalism (which isn’t mainstream among their politicians, but is among their Hippie base) didn’t really have influence until 1968. That being said, Robert Taft (the leading conservative from FDR’s rule to his death in ‘53) was fully supportive of fighting the Nazis and the Japs after they openly declared war on us. If he knew what FDR knew and was President during the 30s, Pearl Harbor probably would not have happened. FDR’s support of eradicating the Nazi threat may also come from a more sinister perspective, that of wanting to eliminate Stalin’s main enemy so that Communism could flourish.

I think we did have a small discussion on rhetoric and strategy with regards to the illegal menace. Good to hear someone else recognizes the truth of the first enviro-wacko President, TR. Nobody with principles speaks softly.

I’ve seen your posts a lot on this forum, and they are always (without exception) worth reading. Your posts remind me of another great conservative I knew on another forum who I learned a lot from, although I can’t quite think of the forum’s name. Just remembering him psyches me out.

I had forgotten to include WW as one of the worst Presidents for his long-lasting influence. A general rule of thumb is that the historians who put together Presidential rankings lists are biased towards favoring Presidents who expanded the role of government, and Wilson usually ranks around number 6 for them.

It seems like the candidates that are excreted by the left in TX are extemely noxious, repulsive, and just downright icky examples of humanity. An example is Castro, mayor of San Antonio. His mom said she whould like to see The Alamo torn down, because it is a symbol of white oppression.

IMO, she should be imprisoned for that comment alone, but there are more. Her son is a racist leftish doosh also.

Native Texan here. This article makes me ill. Big difference in Republican and Conservative, and Texas (even as the Republic) is a CONSERVATIVE state, regardless of party. Get it? Republican, Democrat...Texas votes Conservative.

One of the big problems we have in Texas is that all democrats regardless of what they believe know that they can't get elected to state-wide office here, so they switch to being a "republican" (like Perry did), and hide the fact that they are really closet democrats.

This is one of the reasons we still don't have open carry in Tx, and only recently have been able to make any inroads into reducing the burden for getting a CCW here.

Another problem we have is that Austin is essentially California transplanted to Texas. It doesn't help any that the legislooters exist in such a liberal bubble.

Cruz/Palin is a strong combination. A Liberals’ nightmare.

Both have endured criticisms and rebutted the many lies thrown at them by the leftists. But now they are on the offense and the administration is on the defense, forced to cover up their past actions through outright lies and deceptions. Some of their responses are plainly ridiculous to everyone except to low info voters and idiots.

The democrats would like to see some lesser qualified GOPe candidates running. Some of the same old worn out elite politicians who run to perpetuate their tenure, family dynasties, party loyalties, financial positions, and serve the wrong master. These weaker candidates, who like the media, will not confront the real issues and offer any worthwhile solutions.

I could support a Cruz/Palin ticket. It’s time to quit pussy footing around and get some conservative leadership in the Whitehouse. America is “on the ropes” and change is going to come one way or another.

As a rule, the dumber ones are clueless and cannot name any former presidents other than Bush (don’t blame Obama), Clinton (Hillary’s husband), or Lincoln (freed the slaves and has a towncar named after him).

So who was Woodrow Wilson? They don’t know, want to know, and could care less. Soccer ball perhaps?

Ask them to name the former vice-presidents if you dare.

In fairness to the public school system of yesteryear. It tried to educate me on this matter, but I wasn’t listening too well. I can’t name every former president, their accomplishments, and the order in which they served.
