The risk of dying from a gunshot wound is twice as high for African Americans as it is for white Americans, according to a new study based on 11 years worth of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Between 2000 and 2010, the rate of firearm-related fatalities in the U.S. was 9.05 per 100,000 people for whites and 18.51 per 100,000 people for blacks. When factoring in the 3.38 deaths per 100,000 people of other races, the countrys overall gun-related death rate was 10.21 per 100,000 Americans, researchers reported Thursday in the journal BMJ Open.
That racial discrepancy represents an improvement from the 1990s, the researchers noted: In 1993, gun fatalities were three times more common among blacks compared to whites.
Over the 11 years of the study, at least 335,609 Americans were killed by guns. (The CDC data almost certainly understates the true toll of gun violence, the researchers wrote.) These deaths include murders, suicides and accidental shootings.

I tell ya. Turn your back and they’re up to mischief.
Gun violence...uh?
Guns can’t be violent, people are violent.
Blacks kill blacks at twice the rate of whites...
If most guns are black how can they be racist?
Must be lots of racists out there shooting all those aspiring rap artists!

Yeah well, who is on both sides of the gun?
They forgot the part where blacks kill each other with guns all the time.
Black men are 6% of the population and commit 50% of murders.

I knew that they would got to this, I just did not know when.
The Social Justice Solution.
After Sandy Hook, President Obama introduced an initiative to reduce gun violence. He laid out a litany of tragedies: the children of Newtown, the moviegoers of Aurora, Colo. But he did not mention gun violence among black men.
Why would Obama completely ignore the demographic that represents a full 50% of all gun-related deaths?
“California was singled out in the study for having the most marked reduction in the rate of gun deaths. The researchers said this could be the result of tough antigun laws, including eight aimed at preventing gun trafficking.”
Wow, what a stretch.
The black population has been forced out of California by the increasing numbers of violent Central American illegals. South Central, Inglewood, and other notorious black strongholds from the early days of gangsta rap are now exclusively Hispanic.
Blacks kill other blacks at higher rates than any other group. Decrease the number of blacks in a region and the murder rate declines.
Does the study mention the color of the fingers on the triggers?
Gun violence? Who is shooting those guns?
Other blacks?
So they need to take away whites guns?
I think I read somewhere that if you removed the crime stats from only a few cities like Chicago, Oakland, Baltimore, etc. that the US would be considered one of the safest places on the planet.
IIRC, a black person is about 9 times more likely to be shot by another *black* person than by a white person.
Conveniently, that very minor statistic seems to fall between the cracks.
Also, if memory serves, a *white* person is slightly more likely to be shot by a black person than a white person.
Does this LA Slimes article indicate the reason why more blacks are killed?
Because Blacks are killing other blacks?
I didn’t think so.
But hey - if it makes the libtards happy - I’m OK with banning blacks from owning guns.
Bingo.
And they kill blacks at many times the rate whites do.
Could be racism...
Oh Jessie, Al... pick up the white courtesy phone.
Yes, but you gotta break it down even more.
Black males under 12 and over 30 are less likely to murder. So it is actually more accurate to say that 3% of the population (young black men) commit 50% of the murders.
Maybe even 2 percent.
“If most guns are black how can they be racist?”
I have a Henry lever gun that is high yellow.
