Martin O’Malley’s pollster had sobering news. Despite extensive time in the public eye and strong statements on controversial issues, the would-be candidate barely registered in a new survey.
The year was 1999, and O’Malley (D), a brash white city councilman in majority-black Baltimore, was contemplating a long-shot bid for mayor.
“To a lot of friends, even my closest friends, it seemed like a pretty outlandish idea initially,” he said. He won that election, and the next, and two terms as Maryland governor after that.
Now he is contemplating an odyssey with even steeper odds. By late January, when his time in Annapolis ends, O’Malley says he “probably” will have decided whether to run for president in 2016, a bid that would be likely to pit him against Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former first lady, senator and secretary of state.

The process goes something like this - a consultant or pollster tells a potential candidate they are great and have traction, so they believe it and waste a lot of time and effort (critically including spending money on pollsters and consultants) only to find out no one cares. Repeat.
Sounds like O'Malley isn't "ready for Hillary." I'm not sure what he thinks he's going to accomplish by running against the Ubershrew, but everyone needs a purpose, I guess...
I realized back in 1997 that this scum wanted to be another John Kennedy. His arrogance and ignorance have driven me and many others out of beloved Maryland.
O’Malley isn’t called OWE’Malley for nothing. He is the Tax King. He would do for the country what he did for Maryland: cause people to leave.
Well.. one upside is, unless Hillary dies and O'Malley somehow fools enough people to get the dem nomination, there's no chance he has of becoming President.. at least not for the next eight years.
He’s probably angling for the VP slot. He can’t defeat Hillary but with his unparalled tax and spend record, many Dems would find him an attractive running mate. He is unquestionably farther to the left than Hillary so the party might tap him to balance out the ticket.
That said, this ticket would leave the Dems with two northeasterners so that could prevent this particular “dream team” from coming together.
The next VP is going to be a hispanic. Bet on Julian Castro.
Maryland is a liberal’s paradise. That’s why many residents are leaving the state in droves.
If you love paying high taxes Maryland is the place for you!

He’s done such a wonderful job in Maryland... I’m surprised he hasn’t doubled down on the tax-rate for millionaires... there are still a few who haven’t abandoned the state so far.
Another Delmarva, in-bred, mouth-breathing, dull-normal; he sounds like a perfect replacement for Joe Biden on the democrat ticket. A VP without a measurable IQ; perfect choice.
The dynamics of 2016 will be different from those in 2008 or 2012. I don't know if Hillary qualifies as a "pure" Northeasterner, as she grew up around Chicago, and lived for about 20 years in Arkansas until she moved to Washington, DC and later New York. However, she is old, female, and white, so it is possible if not likely that her Vice Presidential running mate will be none, or just one, of the above. Julian Castro is a possibility, although he would not carry his home state. If Jason Carter, Jimmy Carter's grandson, is elected governor of Georgia, he would become another possibility plus possibly win Georgia for the Democrats for the first time since his grandfather was elected in 1976.

You’re right about her history, of course, but I would add that being a U.S. senator from New York (winning election twice) contributes to her image as a Northeasterner. I don’t think many people associate her with Arkansas or Chicago anymore. That’s now ancient history. She is certainly a creature/denizen of DC though.
He couldn't hold a candle to Kennedy, who pushed a tax CUT and actually supported the concept of liberty.
I hope Hillary eats him for breakfast or as a tasty snack.
