BEIJING (Reuters) - China ordered its journalists on Saturday to learn "Marxist news values" and uphold the principles of news as prescribed by the ruling Communist Party, the latest step in President Xi Jinping's crackdown on the media.

The guidelines by the All China Journalists' Association are aimed at both traditional and online media and are another sign of Xi's politically conservative agenda.

"Let us hold high the banner of socialist core values," the report said, using the party's term for orthodox beliefs.

Xi has espoused old school Maoism as he seeks to court powerful elements in the party. Like many officials before him, Xi is steeped in the party's long-held belief that loosening control too quickly or even at all could lead to chaos and the break up of the country.

Early this year, Chinese journalists also had to pass a new ideology exam to keep their press cards. They were required to do a minimum 18 hours of training on topics including Marxist news values and Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.

Thus, the continued value of an American education in journalism for Chinese journalists.

Chinese journalists also had to pass a new ideology exam to keep their press cards.

I wonder if they just duplicated the US exam.

Chinese journalists need to take a field trip to Manhattan and visit the New York Times if they want a lesson in Marxist news values.

I have long wondered just how Communist the People’s Republic of China really is. Even though the PRC has embraced free enterprise and allowed the people more freedom, the ruling party still calls itself the Communist Party, the flag uses Communist iconography, etc. Maybe it’s a lot more Communist than most of us realize.

Xi's politically conservative agenda.

So, the MSM is now saying that if you are a Marxist, you are a Conservative?

Politically “CONSERVATIVE”? What!?! This is an intellectually dishonest piece of journalistic malpractice from Reuters.

Don’t the Chinese simply need to tune to MSNBC and provide a translator?

Maoism is dead in China. The current rulers of China have accepted completely the Kuomintang ideology of Chaing. They just will not say so publicly, but their actions speak otherwise. The economy will still be organized on a market basis. The political system will remain totalitarian and the cultural system will remain Han Chinese nationalistic to the extreme. This was the vision Chiang Kai Shek had for the county. If Maoism still ruled, the country would have a GDP less than South Korea. In the competition between countries, we can only hope that China reverts back to Maoism.

Most political systems are a Kletocracy of one form or another. The distinction is often a matter of degree. Communism is the most extreme form, but it cloaks it in language and symbolism to fool the Sheeple about how bad it really is. The useful idiots who support Communism are the ones who imagine they are getting something for nothing. In reality, almost everyone gets nothing.

If you reject hopey-changey politics, you’re a conservative.

An interesting insight. The reasons for not advertising the adoption of an oligarchical system would appear obvious.
