The Old Farmer's Almanac, the familiar, 223-year-old chronicler of climate, folksy advice and fun facts, is predicting a colder winter and warmer summer for much of the nation.
Published Wednesday, the New Hampshire-based almanac predicts a "super-cold" winter in the eastern two-thirds of the country. The west will remain a little bit warmer than normal.
"Colder is just almost too familiar a term," Editor Janice Stillman said. "Think of it as a refriger-nation."
More bad news for those who can't stand snow: Most of the Northeast is expected to get more snowfall than normal, though it will be below normal in New England.

There was a local meteorologist who said that climate change was a wad of hooey. Weather here, he said, goes in cycles. We can have 2 or 3 brutal winters, followed by 2 or 3 mild winters. Same with summers. We’ve had summers of 100 degrees and we’ve had cool, damp summers like this one. It’s been this way for centuries. Climate change is baloney.
This is why the term is “climate change” not “global warming.” The purveyors of this nonsense can’t decide whether the earth is getting colder or warmer. “Climate change” covers all bases. Lame.
Farmer’s Almanac has been far more accurate than Gore and the global warming crowd. They even predicted the hot spot in the 90’s wouldn’t last and that we should enjoy it why we had it because warm/wet climates are far more beneficial for agriculture than cold climates. Of course complex computer models tied to cash streams for academics can keep trying to predict the unpredictable by forecasting doom and gloom 100 years from now.
Good news, that means the Federal Government in DC will be closed for more days this winter than last winter. Less time for them to screw things up.
They should build hi-speed ice&snow trains to move it out West..
Make it a priority..
Clear the golf courses near DC first..
Will shovel for firewood. :)
Well we only have a cord stacked up so far. Mr. GG2 is going to start taking down some trees in our yard next week. :-)
They predicted it’d be warmer that average last winter for our part of the midwest.
Pretty much the whole winter, monthly average was at least two degrees more below average than their various predictions had been for above average.
Ooopsie.
Nothing cures someone from wanting to “do something” about Global Warming like going through a bitter cold winter.
Wooly worms
Gosh! I get goosebumps looking at the pic of a few brave fish houses on a cold windy snowy lake.
And envy them.
I miss ice fishing most of all.. That and tooling around lakes all over Minniesoda.. All in search of a cold Hamm’s..
How could the Farmers Almanac or the Foxfire books be correct about anything? /s
They aint Ivy League scholars.

Those who follow sun cycles could have (and did) predicted that.......we're screwed for the next 8 years or so.......
And Icelands Bárðarbunga volcano is about to blow...just might feel like 1816 all over again...
Funny how the experts leave the Sun cycles out of the equation.
Weve known about it for a long tine and radio enthusiasts follow it closely.
I know where you can come! :P
Florida here I come.
