That’s $643 per deer. Heck, run an add and hunters would do it for free. Only the feds could foolishly spend this kind of money.

$1.8 Million Dollars is not a lot of money for a government run program. This sounds like productive use of funding to reduce excess Deer. They should just be quiet about who’s shooting where and when, with what ammo, then have at it.
If the deer are deemed healthy, the meat should be cleaned packaged and sold. I would buy a small amount of Deermeat if it were legally offered for sale. Never having cooked or tasted it before, I don’t mind conducting an experiment.

Parks Service hopes to use chemical contraceptives to maintain the herds' numbers.

Um, and this can effect humans how? That is scary.

And this,
1.The public is prohibited from hunting on the parkland
2. populations have reached as high as 230 deer per square mile at Monocacy

Government never does anything right.

PETA gals will show up at the hearings and offer to put condoms on the bucks this Fall or feed the does “morning after” pills.
What could go wrong?

BTW, does anyone know if it’s legal in Washington state to ummm... eliminate a deer if it is eating your crops?

I (and the next door neighbors) have a huge buck that’s eating our veggies raw!

I think they could use re-enactors to do that, then they could charge admission.

Should just open these areas to public for hunting .

We have similar problems locally in that hunters are not permitted to control the deer and other wild animal populations in state parks ,cities, and HOA lands. Naturally the deer, raccoon, and other have become more than a nuisance.Yet misguided foolish people protest every sane effort to reduce the numbers by hunting.

Of course these same people are for killing human babies in the womb.

Mmmm...sounds like practice for when the REAL population reduction plan gets put into action. They also may be ‘white tail’ as well.

Who qualifies as a sharpshooter?

230 deer per square mile? That’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

Deer are nuisance animals. Their population needs to be controlled.

I wonder how many $ millions are spent every year on car repairs due to deer collisions?

One thing’s for sure-body shops love ‘em.

Round up the deer and put gray blankets on them - then they can get hunters to pay to participate in a re-creation of Pickett’s Charge. :)

There are more deer today in the contiguous United States than there were when the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.

Agriculture.
