An execution taking place in Arizona tonight appears to have gone horribly awry. According to a report from the Associated Press, inmate Joseph Rudolph Wood "gasped and snorted" and was still alive more than an hour after the execution began. Wood was not pronounced dead until 3:49PM MT, one hour and 57 minutes after the beginning of the procedure.
Wood's lawyers filed an emergency appeal during the execution, noting that he was "gasping and snorting for more than an hour" but was still alive some 70 minutes after the execution began. The whole process should have taken 10 minutes, Wood's lawyers said.

Let's start a pool on how many times you see or hear the word "botched" in the next week.
The ChiComs charge the family of the killer for the price of the bullet.
Maybe the protocol should be to cremate them before the lethal injections.
I have an idea. Let's let the abortionists do the executions. They are always yammering about not being able to ply their trade.
Or any other inert gas. But you are quite right. The notion that killing a person quickly and painlessly is some immense challenge is just ludicrous.
The problem is that the opponents are not really against any particular method. Their just pretend to be as a pose to help them in their fight against any form of capital punishment.
BTW, the guillotine takes about 1/10 second. Works every time.
They should just OD on heroin. People pay for the pleasure of dying that way and if it doesn’t work, they try it again.
Maybe we could hire some North Koreans to fire a mortar round at them.
Bring back hanging in the courthouse square.
Why go to the expense?
Just let a Jihadist have at 'em with a rusty pocket knife.
The modern “humane” methods seem to go horribly wrong a lot lately. Hanging or firing squad work well. And they’re cheap.
Wood was sentenced to death for killing Debra Dietz and her father, Eugene Dietz, in 1989 at the family's automotive shop in Tucson. Wood and Dietz had a tumultuous relationship in which he periodically assaulted her. Dietz tried to end their relationship and got an order of protection against Wood. On the day of the shooting, Wood went to the auto shop and waited for Dietz's father, who disapproved of his daughter's relationship with Wood, to get off the phone. Once the father hung up, Wood pulled out a revolver, shot him in the chest and then smiled. Wood then turned his attention toward Debra Dietz, who was trying to telephone for help. Wood grabbed her by the neck and put his gun to her chest. She pleaded with him to spare her life. An employee heard Wood say, "I told you I was going to do it, I have to kill you." He then called her an expletive and fired two shots in her chest.
So I guess one could find his "snorting" somewhat ironic . . .
Ooops. He got an extra 50 minutes.
So what was the rush?
Good.
They injected him with the wrong compound. Lead injection works faster.
how many years did the pos live on death row? take the 2 hours and divide it by the number of hours of years he spent on death row, and i still wouldn’t care even that little.
why doesnt cruel and unusual punishment apply to the victims’ family justice delayed for years?
Sounds like the victims were in more pain and fear than a couple snorts. I’m glad this bastard suffered.
I’m a doctor and a supporter of capital punishment.
I would pull the trigger, open the trap, throw the switch, turn on the gas, swing the axe.
I would never ever participate in a medical execution.
Just as with the execution in Oklahoma, so the juice took longer to work... ultimately it was successful. So what if the murderer “gasped and snorted?” BFD.
