The New Republic has a longish piece on how John Kerry got the latest iteration of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process restarted and how it fell apart around him. It involved a lot of talking and self-importance on all sides. The article includes a lot of reporting on the details of conversations between John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and other Israeli and Palestinian officials. Among the reported conversations is this one that started about Palestinian incitement:
Kerry pressed on: "When I fought in Vietnam, I used to look at the faces of the local population and the looks they gave us. I'll never forget it. It gave me clarity that we saw the situation in completely different ways."
"This isn't Vietnam!" Netanyahu shouted. "No one understands Israel but Israel."
Kerry tried explaining himself again: "No one is saying it's Vietnam. But I've been coming here for thirty years, and I'm telling you, what's building up in the Palestinians has only gotten worse. I've seen it. It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong; it just is. It can't be solved if you can't see it how they see it."
His argument is basically: “They have hardened in their ideology over time, so you have to give up.”
Ahh yes, I remember, John Kerry actually served in Vietnam. In a Swiftboat...
I think silence in diplomacy is as important as speech. Kerry strikes me as the kind of person who just can’t keep his yap shut for a second. Whenever I see one of those pre-conference photos where the diplomats and state leaders are sitting across from each other, nearly everyone is sitting with their hands folded, smiling politely, reading their notes, sipping water. But not Kerry. His mouth is always, I mean always, open. No-doubt he’s bloviating on some matter or another with a know-it-all attitude.
Maybe that’s why he sucks so bad at this job.
John Kerry was in Vietnam?
Netanyahu is a serious man. He has little patience or tolerance for a petulant narcissist like Kerry or Obama.
“what’s building up in the Palestinians has only gotten worse.”
That couldn’t be because the Palestinians are brainwashing their people to hate Jews from the cradle, could it?
It's starting to sound like BiBi picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue. LOL! ;-D
American Patriots Against John KerryThe 1970 meeting that John Kerry conducted with North Vietnamese communists violated U.S. law, according to an author and researcher who has studied the issue.
Kerry met with representatives from both delegations (North Vietnam and the Viet Cong) of the Vietnamese in Paris in 1970, according to Kerrys own testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on April 22, 1971. But Kerrys meetings with the Vietnamese delegations were in direct violation of laws forbidding private citizens from negotiating with foreign powers, according to researcher and author Jerry Corsi, who began studying the anti-war movement in the early 1970s.
According to Corsi, Kerry violated U.S. code 18 U.S.C. 953. A U.S. citizen cannot go abroad and negotiate with a foreign power, Corsi told CNSNews.com.
By Kerrys own admission, he met in 1970 with delegations from the North Vietnamese communist government and discussed how the Vietnam Warshould be stopped.
bttt
He was in Vietnam, doncha know?
I give thanks every time I see that horse-faced son of a bitch that he is not the POTUS.
Although, truth be told, I'd have him over the current stupid piece of shit in the White outHouse.
Kerry is right about one thing.
It is getting worse.
True enough. But then neither does BiBi like or appreciate being reminded of civilian Palestinian deaths.
Bibi: 1
Kerry: 0
This sounds almost like Kerry's concerned about the State of Israel's future. If the Palestinians/Arabs "blow" at once...I don't see how the State of Israel survives.
Could this be one of the reasons Kissinger predicted two years ago that the State of Israel will not exist in ten years?
This is pretty scary. Gotta stop the bombs and the missiles and get to some serious negotiations about the future of the region. (IMHO, of course ... )
Kerry was also a Navy reservist at the time, thus he was in direct violation of several articles of the UCMJ. He should have been sent to Leavenworth.
The State Department (and particularly the Secretary) just needs to go into all meetings and negotiations with a t-shirt that reads “I’m a buffoon!”
True enough. But then neither does BiBi like or appreciate being reminded of civilian Palestinian deaths.
