Movie Review: ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Takes On Gun Control
dailycaller.com ^ | 7/13/2014 | Rachel Stoltzfoos

The Gun can turn seemingly sane people into crazy maniacal lunatics. The Gun corrupts bonds of peace and consistently ruins surprising and infinitely touching moments of inter-species bonding that bridge time and genetic space. The Gun causes war.

There's ALWAYS a message in there somewhere. Kind of like avatar and the evil humans destroying nature, evil hunters killing bambi's mom. Too many to mention.

She is probably anti-gun but the way it read it was almost like what we on FreeRepublic do and mock the ability of the gun to have a mind of it’s own.

Profound message. My pen caused misspelling.

I still have not seen Avatar. I turned my back on Hollywood long ago. Divorcing myself from advocacy cinema has positive effects on my lifestyle. There are way too many other things one can enjoy.

There is always a message. That’s what a story does, it reaches us.

Hollywood ‘thinks’ it has a corner on this.

No matter that stories existed since the beginning of human existence.

Hollywood discovered the power of stories as they were in the middle of just story telling, and doing it quite well.

So, the question is: What stories (in movie form) do you remember/like/rewatch?

Ditto, the rest of Americans.
What’s the message?

Not all actors take these current liberal message movie roles.

The women get led around by the nose, some of the men do to.

But what actors do you trust?

What she says in the review is true (I actually saw it this weekend — not my idea, believe me). However, keep in mind that some trendy, “humans are going to kill themselves” message has been in pretty much EVERY Planet of the Apes movie. In Beneath the Planet of the Apes, we had the humans who destroyed the world with a nuclear bomb (a quaint thought now, isn’t it?). In Escape from the Planet of the Apes, we had pollution destroying the world. Even in the original, man destroyed his own society. In the good Planet of the Apes movies, you could put that aside and enjoy the show. In the bad ones — like this — you simply have a boring movie.

One underlying question is — why do the liberals who run Hollywood feel so strongly that they have to inject these messages into entertainment????

Why do so many TV shows have homosexual characters, for example? And why are these characters always portrayed in a positive light?

Why are clergy often portrayed negatively in TV shows and movies?

A good question to me is why do the Hollywood idiots do this when they make movies? Just make a movie, and skip the social/political messaging.

Funny, in the original Planet of the Apes movies, the Apes seemed to have decided that guns were a good idea after all...

It is so blatantly obvious that I don’t see how even a lefty can miss it -

the reason that humans get dominated is because the apes are physically superior.

Without guns to even the odds, the weak are always dominated and oppressed by the strong.

Do they not see this? Do they think it’s actually a GOOD thing for the strong to dominate the weak?

To the men that run Hollywood, and its easy to find out who they are and what they are, their business is not entertainment but mass mind control.

Never saw avitar but know many who did, when they described the plot the 1st thing I thought was yep, another hollywood subliminal message/agenda/propaganda.

Scary thing is, most of the people I tried to bring this to their attention didn’t or couldn’t see it.........Wow

This is total BS. Mrs. Pharmboy and I saw this movie yesterday. My consciousness was heightened for an anti-gun message and was expecting one since I had read an earlier piece on FR that said so.

Walking out of the theater, I said to my wife “Did you notice an anti-gun message?”

“No—not at all. Did you?”

I told her that I thought the opposite. The people who read anti-gun messages where they do not exist are not helping the 2A cause. Great movie, BTW

There is always an agenda in “entertainment.” Films and TV programs are made to promote an agenda, and the story line is designed to get you to suspend your disbelief and critical thinking so that you will accept the message.
I’ve seen very few exceptions.

There was a Planet of the Apes marathon on ScyFy this weekend. You are right. You forgot the one where there was a fight between the apes and the one ape wanted all the guns destroyed because they are evil. So what? They are just dumb entertainment. lol

The reason that humans get dominated is because the apes are physically superior. Without guns to even the odds, the weak are always dominated and oppressed by the strong.

This could also be no more than a plot device. If the point of the movie is that the apes take over, they have to somehow make it feasible (I have not seen the movie).
