At a time when election officials are struggling to convince more Americans to vote, advocates for the disabled say thousands of people with autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy and other intellectual or developmental disabilities have been systematically denied that basic right in the nations largest county.
A Voting Rights Act complaint to be filed Thursday with the U.S. Justice Department goes to a politically delicate subject that states have grappled with over the years: Where is the line to disqualify someone from the voting booth because of a cognitive or developmental impairment?
The complaint by the Disability and Abuse Project argues that intellectual and developmental disabilities, including conditions such as Down syndrome, are not automatic barriers to participating in elections. It seeks a sweeping review of voting eligibility in Los Angeles County in such cases, arguing that thousands of people with those disabilities have lost the right to vote during the last decade.

Soldiers are often banned from voting too.
More voter fraud on the way.

If you cant coherently fill out a ballot, then you shouldn’t be voting as a courtesy to everyone else.
Next these special interest groups will be demanding to give children the vote.
well, the solution is obvious. Just register as a democrip and your votes will be counted even if you die.
So, they ARE targeting Democrats.
The democrats will help them vote just like they do for the nursing home residents. Guess how they will vote then.
So the Dems want felons and the retarded to vote. They have to protect their base!
Looks like a liberal chip-on-shoulder operation here.
Trying to bait conservatives into railing at the “retards” so that they can get sound bites to parade around in public.
They have already. They want to lower the voting age to 16.................
Makes me want to know what the framers thought about this.
be careful what you wish for. Dem will simply harvest their names/address and vote in their stead
Here is another side of the issue. When I was poll watching for the last major election I witnessed a man bring in an elderly woman in a wheelchair and proceed to do her voting for her. She appeared to be unaware of her surroundings and I got the strong impression that she did not know what was going on. But this man, (who could have been family, but maybe not because he didn’t appear to interact with her or treat her kindly,) was voting for her.
I of course have no idea how “she” voted, but it appeared to me to be an example of potential voter fraud.
Another example of potential voter fraud that concerned me a few years ago: My polling site was changed to a nursing home. I imagine that most of those residents, regardless of mental state, “voted” democrat that year, whether they wanted to or not. I called up my local Republican Party and reported the situation. I got the standard brush-off. But to my surprise, the polling site went back to the former site. I don’t know if my complaint had any impact or not. It just seemed like a setting that was ripe for voter fraud to occur.
Actually, San Bernadino County is the nation’s largest.
“So the Dems want felons and the retarded to vote. They have to protect their base!”
LOL!
This is something that GOP could take the bull by the horns about, if they wished. It’s not just liberals who can look into these situations, ya know. Get some firsthand data. If they are all too blitzed to vote, see it personally.
It’s interesting how “fairvote” wants to ensure that kids who are recipients of municipal largesse without directly contributing to the cost to become a voting block.
I cannot see an upside to lowering the voting age. It only reinforces normalcy bias in favor of the democrats.
That’s ALL it’s for. That’s ALL ANYTHING IS FOR: Getting POWER..................
