Florida sheriff defends acquisition of surplus MRAP Published June 30, 2014 Associated Press
DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. A decision by one Panhandle sheriff's office to purchase a military surplus MRAP is being criticized by some residents.
The Northwest Florida Daily News reports that the Walton County Sheriff's office bought the mine-resistant and ambush-resistant MRAP for just the $2,500 cost of delivery.
Sheriff Mike Adkinson says the heavy-duty vehicle will protect his officers in dangerous situations. But some residents told the newspaper that the military vehicle is an unnecessary show of force in their largely rural county.

Wait till they get the maintenance costs. One tire costs roughly $1,000.
I bet a good number of them get overturned or otherwise damaged even on the best roads.

What difference does it make to them? They aren't spending their money; they're spending our money.
Also, when they didn't have any mines, they'd dig up the road where it bottle-necked for the purpose mentioned in the first post.
From a psyops perspective, that's pretty devious when you think about it. Do it enough, and people become lackidasical, towards possible mining. Lull them into a false sense of security, then BLAM goes the real one. You could also bury a real mine underneath a fake one. Lots of possibilities.
“Interesting, I wonder if any of these little departments have thought to pursue the profit off of buying these.”
It is very likely that the contract that the police agency signed with the Government prohibits disposing of the Government property for profit or otherwise without specific approval of the DOD.
Interesting
That military hardware is for this.

“the government isn’t going to roll over and give back the rights it has been vigorously stealing for the last hundred years.”
...and on that very subject one would assume that States having been usurped, would be completely on board with retaining what they have and reacquiring what they have lost. In most cases you would be wrong. The States unfortunately have grown accustomed to being wards of the Federal Government at the expense of individual freedom and liberty.
Have no fear of loosing money at that price, there are those willing to buy at ten times what the Sheriff paid.
sticky bomb - low tech
You're making a false assumtion. Not at all what I was talking about. The state governments, in fact government at all levels, are just as guilty as the feds of taking rights and plundering hard earned wealth just to squander it on their supporters. I was refering to the people at the individual level taking action.
Will Rogers once said, "Thank God we don't get all the government we pay for." Unfortunately now we're getting most if not all the government we're paying for.
If the government continues to use it’s standing army (the thugs in blue) to treat the citizens like subjects of a communist tyranny
Seems I overlooked the thugs in blue which in the context of standing army would tend to tend to focus lower than the Fed whose “standing army” isn’t composed of thugs nor dressed daily in blue even though they have dress blues.
So, thanks for spelling it out here: “in fact government at all levels, are just as guilty as the feds of taking rights and plundering hard earned wealth just to squander it on their supporters”.
Gotta keep the defense contractors in business doncha know.
