Two decades after California voters approved Proposition 187, barring public services to those in the country illegally, Gov. Jerry Brown said Thursday that the political tide has turned in the state with a growing wave of Latino voters demanding more tolerant policy from Sacramento.
Speaking to hundreds of Latino elected officials from throughout the country holding a conference in San Diego, Brown said the shift in power has made possible public support for changes including his signing of legislation providing drivers licenses to immigrants in the country illegally and providing them with scholarships and the right to practice law.
The power you represent is growing and it is growing in very important ways, Brown told the members of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort.
Brown went on to credit the sheer power of the Latino community as it is felt in the towns and cities and counties up and down this state. That is the tide that is turning the political feelings and philosophy of state government.
The governor cited the history of various groups controlling California as a lesson.
The Mexicans threw out the Spanish around 1815, and then, of course, the gringos threw out the Mexicans in 1846, or 1848, Brown said. But the point is you never keep control forever. Theres always new waves coming so youve got to stay ahead of the wave."
"Thats what we call Brown power," he joked with a play on his name.

And if the Governor had exchanged the word “White” with “Latino,” exactly how much furor would there now be?
That’s basically waving the white flag.
Go ahead and give CaliForNia to Mexico.
Come to think of it, that would keep the immigrants from coming.
Good Lord these pandering politicians make me sick! The brown man and the queer man are now the “special” ones to be put on pedestal. For some reason reminds me of where the Lord said at the end of this age people will worship and serve the creature instead of the creator Himself. Also reminds me of the plague of locusts people will be enduring...literal or figural..makes me wonder.
Well, it looks like it won’t be a problem for white people in the future. I read somewhere yesterday that the white birth/death replacement ratio for this country has fallen below 1:1 and continues to drop.
Brown has the attitude of whites in post-apartheid South Africa; whites no longer have real control of CA, but the “browns” need them to administer things (so it doesn’t revert to Mexico’s Third World conditions).
This is happening in a lot of areas as the white birthrate plummets; DiBlasio in NYC is a case in point. The Third Worlders infesting NYC still want indoor plumbing, a semblance of sanitary conditions, etc., and they need white people to feed and shelter them (because they know what their own kind would do to them).
It’s more pronounced in CA, but hispanic political power is growing throughout most of the country. The eventual cessation of CA is only a first step on the “reconquista” path.

Yeah I just read some sobering statistics tonight as well. The grandchildren(only one now, hopefully more:)likely will have to live as an underdog minority in an overpopulated, economically depressed country.
He is catering specifically to South and Central American socialists. Most settled Latin Americans don’t want this wave of criminal invaders any more than anyone else. Sadly, it’s a smaller percentage now thanks to the criminal obama. The numbers running freely over the borders are rapidly overwhelming communities.
Yeah...Latino policies have worked so well for Mexico that they’re coming here by the thousands. /s
See? The illegal immigrant vote IS making a difference...
Yep pretty much. Soon a bunch of purple states are going to turn solid blue like California.
With all this acquired political sophistication and shear numbers of
folks one might ask just why don’t these Mexicans return to their
home country and force reforms there? They can invade the most
powerful and successful democracy in the history of the world and
change the direction of this nation yet their own homeland remains
backwards and corrupt. What’s wrong with this picture?
“Thats what we call Brown power
That’s what we call in California a 24% poverty rate and a 50% high school drop out rate. My town is 85% Latino with 85% of the births at the local hospital covered under Medi-Cal and 85% of the kids at the local schools getting free breakfasts and lunches. Coincidence?
So goes CA and the US. Hail the invaders!

I was going to post a comment, but yours sums it up perfectly.
Goodbye, USA. I really loved you.
I would say it is a two step process with the first step being "as goes Texas, so goes California". The legal precedent the courts used to overturn the GOP's Prop 187 in California was the previous court decision that began Texas which overturned Texas' attempts to deny a public education to illegal children.
Then the second step is "as the California Republican party goes, so goes the national Republican party".
If the national GOP follows the path of the CA GOP, it leads to ruin.
In both cases, these were not "mistakes made", they were political decisions made knowing the likely outcome.
So in reality, they were/are "self-fulfilling prophecies"
Most settled Latin Americans dont want this wave of criminal invaders any more than anyone else.
The TAKERS always want more from the ‘givers’.
