Paging Elizabeth Warren: This is your moment.
In 2007, Democrats were delirious with rage about the Iraq war. Hillary Clinton, the inevitable presidential front-runner, had voted for the war and refused to apologize for it. Other leading candidates, including Joe Biden, John Edwards, and Chris Dodd, voted for it too. This left a huge opening for a credible antiwar candidate. Barack Obama, inexperienced and underqualified, nonetheless jumped into the vacuum. The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, the issue that obsesses the base of the Democratic party is income inequality. I think thats foolish. The underlying causes of inequality miserable economic growth, stagnating wages, poverty, etc. are vastly more worthy challenges. Though, in fairness, many people actually have those problems in mind when they talk about inequality.
Theres another component to the inequality obsession: populism. People increasingly feel that economic and political elites are enriching themselves, not by making great products or selling valuable services, but by cutting backroom deals and selling influence. This rage is remarkably bipartisan. It is the one theme that loosely unites tea partiers and Wall Street occupiers alike.
Obscure economics professor David Brat toppled House majority leader Eric Cantor in a Virginia primary largely by tapping into that populism, particularly on such issues as immigration and Wall Street bailouts.
Senator Warren owes her left-wing hero status to the Democratic version of this kind of populism. Shes been talking for years about how the well-connected rig the system for their own benefit. Now, I find many of Warrens proposed solutions more regulation, more taxes, more government, etc. abhorrent. But, believe it or not, I am not a Democratic-primary voter. Those who are love what Warren is selling.
Which is why Warren is perfectly poised to be the Obama of 2016.

Won’t she have the redskin vote, the America-is-evil-white and colonialist vote, just like the guy occupying the Oval Office?
No, I tend to agree with the others on this. Democrats always go for the fresh face. John Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barky. When the go with old lions like Mondale, or Humphrey, or Gore, they lose.
2007 was Hilary year, except early in the campaign she said the wrong thing. She wanted the Wall Street collapse investigated and bankers put on trial for any illegal acts (ala liar loans), Within 30 days Wall Street money flow from Clinton to a new upstart name Obama. What made this unusual is that Wall Street never backed a leftwinger in the Dem Party except for this moment. Rumors have it that the Chicago left made a devil’s pact with Wall Street, let them come to power and in return no one on Wall Street will go to jail. Obama once in power had Holder as AG, a well know Wall Street bundler for the Dems, the Sec of Treasury from GWB was retained, and no investigations were initiated, any that were, were settled out of court with a fine that is only a fraction of what the guilty firm made over the years. Many settlements were made with the banker not acknowledging guilt nor innocence and the records are sealed. Gov got their fine, CEO escape liability, and any civil suits cannot access the sealed evidence. The stockholders and customers of corporate products paid the fine in prices and share price changes. Before freepers freak out and call this conspiracy BS, here is a comparison. S&L crisis under Bush 41 and Clinton. S&L were shutdown, over 1000 criminal referals, 900 S&L officers, owners, execs, clerks, accountants etc etc were put on trial with over 90 percent convicted. How many on Wall Street went on trial???? Talking about the US being royally fracked. Under Obama Wall Street gets a bailout, along with GM. etc etc etc. Sen Warren is an OWS type. IMHO I think she has a chance given the anger on Main Street USA. Tea Party tried the establishment rout and learn the GOPe play dirty. Ifn Sen Warren packages her message correctly, she may form an unusual coalition of the moment, Tea Party and OWS. Establishment on both sides be afraid, plenty afraid. If establishment think Tea Party is too radical to accomodate, wait till OWS hits the streets, they will wear masks, carry torches and march to the homes of CEO and confront them with their family at home. the only thing keeping the CEO safe is his door. If the establishment keeps screwing with the people, it is a matter of time the people will storm that door. Don t think its possible, well prices of food and fuel are starting to rise (due to Fed printing and borrowing), wages have stagnated and many cannot get jobs. Someone will be blamed. History show politicians and businessmen are usually the ones.
Warren’s the perfect candidate: a millionaire funded by Wall Street brokers, who lied about her race to land a job at Harvard and doesn’t think the rules apply to her.
She’s a shoe in for Marxist Democrats.
She is a filthy demagogue, of which the rat party is loaded, and history knows well.
Yes. They seem to love the fake indian. I don't fear her, though, like I did Obama. She comes across as a know-it-all nag.
the one theme that loosely unites tea partiers and Wall Street occupiers alike.
Nope, there is nothing that even aligns us with them.
Someone should save this before it gets deleted....remember Obama was a nobody and Republicans didn’t do their work on him- and before you know it, we were blind-sighted and then all the dirt was being deleted and buried...
I just finished reading “Blood Feud” on kindle. After reading about the betrayal of Obama against the Clinton’s I don’t think Hillary is going to get the nomination.
Especially after her screw up comments about being broke...you think Clinton’s were dirty and played hard-ball, they are nothing compared to Valerie and Obama’s team. They too have mysterious deaths of persons who could have harmed them...
In the book, Obama has refused, after promising Bill to turn over his voter computer system and donor list to get Hillary elected in 2016.
The only thing Hillary could do is try to prove that Obama wasn’t eligible or something about that birth certificate...
Otherwise I think she is toast...No way his ego will allow Bill and Hill to be his replacement.
To this day every terrorist attack on people has been carried out by MUSLIM terrorists!!! I have yet to see a head line that reads: Southern Baptist (or Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Catholic, etc.), suicide bomber blows up farmer's market, hundreds dead." It is always the so called religion of peace (which is actually murder, not peace). Their entire book of murder says to kill anyone not in their religion.
She tells a large part of the Democrat base exactly what it wants to hear. I think at worst for her, she takes the Beest deep into the primaries.
There is a strong faction in the Dem Party that does not like the Clintons. The same faction that dumped Ms Inevitable in 2008 is looking to do so again in 2016.
Obama staggered at the finish to edge her out in 2008. That won't happen this time around no matter if the challenger is Warren or Biden.
Only if it kills her. And even then, the Dems may prop her up like Weekend at Bernie’s.
Hillary will have a fresh face—filled with Botox.
You're correct up to the words "historic President".But you've missed the fact that in Princess Liawatha you have absolution for crimes against *two* groups....women and Indians. You should also keep in mind that at their '16 Convention the true believers will be absolutely convinced that Osama Obama is the best President the nation has ever had. That, too, will work against the former Twelfth Lady.
Warren has no chance of being the nominee.
Relax and stop expending mental energy on Massachusett's dowdy squaw woman, Jokahantus.
She will go nowhere, just like Hillary will go nowhere, also.
In view of an unsettled, dangerous world plus the present Great Depression we're already in, the Dem party will NOT win with a woman if a strong, attractive lefty male presents himself as a primary candidate on the Demonrat presidential ticket.
And one will, mark my words...er, my guess, heheh.
We're in the middle of the summer dog days, and no politicians will be doing anything or announcing anything right now because the folks are doing what they do in the heat and heart of summertime which is having fun and not paying too much attention to politics.
The serious Dem announcements for the presidential nomination will come after the first of the year (including Hillary's).
She said she would annnounce at that time one way or the other. My guess it will be the other...i.e., "I will not run".
There's lot of Democrat politicians girding themselves right now for a run at the brass ring, but it's being done under double-deep cover.
Only NSA probably knows who they are, LOL.
