Dick Cheney: Rand Paul Is Wrong On Foreign Policy
Business Insider ^ | 06/22/2014 | Hunter Walker

Posted on 06/22/2014 10:48:17 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

ormer Vice President Dick Cheney fired back Sunday after Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) criticized his position on Iraq. In an appearance on ABC's "This Week," Cheney argued Paul, who is widely seen as a potential presidential candidate in 2016, is an "isolationist" who doesn't understand the "absolutely essential" need for America to be involved in the Middle East.

"Now, Rand Paul and — by my standards, as I look at his — his philosophy, is basically an isolationist. That didn't work in the 1930s, it sure as heck won't work in the aftermath of 9/11, when 19 guys armed with airline tickets and box cutters came all the way from Afghanistan and killed 3,000 of our citizens," Cheney said, according to a rush transcript of the show

Paul addressed Cheney's position on Iraq in an interview with NBC that aired on "Meet The Press" Sunday. In that interview, Paul critiqued a Wall Street Journal op-ed written by Cheney and his daughter, Liz, that was critical of President Barack Obama's foreign policy and handling of the crisis in Iraq. The Cheneys said Obama's "rhetoric" about ending the Iraq War had "come crashing into reality" after troop withdrawals were followed by jihadists from the group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) taking territory in the country. Paul argued Cheney and others who supported the Iraq War were primarily to blame for many of the current issues in the Middle East.

"What’s going on now — I don’t blame on President Obama. Has he really got the solution? Maybe there is no solution. But I do blame the Iraq War on the chaos that is in the Middle East," Paul said. "I also blame those who are for the Iraq War for emboldening Iran.

He didn’t say otherwise.

And Iraq has made such request.

Why go back. Don’t need the energy, they may begin killing each other off faster than we could.

“Liberal Dem response.

How in the? Saying that Bush protected the country from Islamic hordes for 8 years is strange and delusional. The biggest terrorist attack in our country’s history happened on his watch, that’s just a fact.

Oh please, you just have not read the agreement and are unwilling to be truthful about it. This is on the head of Obama - and Paul is wrong on this issue (as in other issues).

Frankly, amnesty Paul will not get many votes from Freepers.

Rand Paul is more right than Dick Cheney.

Has the boss ever posted FUDC? On any number of occasions, he's made his point succinctly clear with FURP. That settles it as far as I'm concerned. Here are just a few recent cites from the Patriot who founded this site for true Conservative Activism:

FURP!
FURP!! Amnesty pimps need not apply!!
FURP!! Leftist surrender monkey!!

He didn’t say otherwise.

This was his original statement:

Likewise when people here support exactly what Obama has done in pulling out our troops from Iraq before its time and hamstringing the US so that terrorists like ISIS can move in.

The U.S. military presence in Iraq officially ended on December 16, 2011. Are you trying to make the case that Obama somehow "pulled out our troops before its time" because they weren't left there until the agreement expired on December 31st? LOL.

And Iraq has made such request.

And I understand the U.S. has made a commitment to send several hundred military advisors to accommodate Iraq's request. Is that not good enough for you?

I've actually thought about that at this point, Obama has made such a mess of it. But we will be going back after it settles out there, and we will be going there again for the same reasons we went in there in 2003 (another 9/11 attack). Hopefully, we will have a President that won't tie the military's hands with all the "rules of engagements" we have now - this is what kills our guys every time!

The text of the Agreement is sitting open here in my web browser. I will ask you one more time to cite a specific provision of this Agreement under which the U.S. can engage in military action in Iraq on its own without the permission of the Iraqi government.

If you can't provide this to me, then let's stop wasting our time.

If you can't provide this to me, then let's stop wasting our time.

It is you who are wasting my time - you can't read the loopholes and provisions to break the agreement of pulling out under certain circumstances that is throughout the agreement then it's your problem.

And amnesty Paul is a looser!

It’s juvenile to notice and point out that George W. Bush was President on 9/11/01? Astonishing.

It’s weird. You use the word ‘agreement’ in your posts, yet don’t seem to know what it means.

No, you RonPaulian idiot. I’m making the case that Obama made no sincere effort to negotiate a Status of Forces Agreement because he signaled he was taking US troops out and made it a campaign promise.

“And I understand the U.S. has made a commitment to send several hundred military advisors to accommodate Iraq’s request. Is that not good enough for you?”

We don’t need boots on the ground. We should use airpower only. And the lie that we have to have boots to direct the airpower is absolute BS.

“I’m making the case that Obama made no sincere effort to negotiate a Status of Forces Agreement because he signaled he was taking US troops out and made it a campaign promise.”

It was already negotiated and signed before he took office.

Except for that whole 9/11 thing.

That tired leftist refrain?

President George Bush was in office for just a short while when that happened. It's been proven time and time again that the circumstances leading to the muzzie attacks were put in place by the policies of the Korrupt Klintoon Klan. It's similar to the killing of osama bin laden which, although it did happen during the hussein obama regime, was made possible by the strategy of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. Their advanced techniques of enhanced interrogation provided the valuable information to keep America safe and, ultimately, ended the life of obama's fellow muzzie.

Compare and contrast:

It’s not analysis, merely the acknowledgement of historical facts.
