The United States Patent and Trademark Office has canceled the Washington Redskins trademark registration, calling the football teams name disparaging to Native Americans.
The landmark case, which appeared before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, was filed on behalf of five Native Americans. It was the second time such a case was filed.

Come quickly, Lord.
Okay, even with the cooked numbers 1 in 5 households have no one in residence with a job. The real unemployment statistics are over 25%.
Iraq, Syria, Egypt, North Korea, China, Russia and the Ukraine are enjoying our new-found impotence, and now in addition to 60-70 thousand new regulations and “findings” Odingo is going to tackle global warming while he is not spending his time violating our constitution.
Well, God bless America. At least the “native americans” (all five of them) will not be offended.
God forgive me, I hate the Left, but You already know that.
I hate what they do. But, I also believe that You are using them to punish us for turning our backs to You.
These things have to happen, You will do all your pleasure, and it is obvious to even a child Your pleasure is to decimate America. One piece at a time.
God forgive us.
LOL! I wonder if the commie libs expect that to offend me. If they do, they’re wrong. I still like “The Fightin’ Whities” logo better than what they came up with though.
Two of the biggest games of the year are Cowboys Vs Redskins.
Let’s say they changed the names to the Washington Cumquats.
Cowboys vs Cumquats just doesn’t sound all that interesting...............
Can't say black.
But you can say Whitey!!
More abuse of power by our fascist government.
and the Finger Points To -——> Harry Reid
They can keep the name and just make the mascot a potato.
What about the United Negro College Fund? The NAACP?
That's an excellent point.
Indeed, to be politically correct it should be the NAAPOC for People of Color. “People of Color” acceptable; “Colored People”, bad. In addition to being born a Native American (hundreds of millions of us were), I’m also a person of color.
Kinda pinkish beige.
Wiki: “The team originated as the Boston Braves, based in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1932. At the time the team played in Braves Field, home of the Boston Braves baseball team. The following year the club moved to Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, whereupon owners changed the team’s name to the Boston Redskins. The Redskins relocated to Washington, D.C.”
There were some cases of football teams duplicating the name of the baseball squad...here it was altered slightly, as they took Redskins rather than Red Sox.
Two hundred years ago there was a move to make the Indian disappear. He was moved to Indian Territory(Oklahoma), his mounds and villages torn down, burial grounds looted. Anything significant was considered made by the mythical Welsh Prince MODOC.
In the 1970s Indians began to make a comeback with silly Mazola commercials, Movies, and statements by actors like Marlon Brando, along with civic disorder like at Wounded Knee in 1973.
Now the American Indian is again disappearing, pushed out of the Sports realm by over zealous Leftists who fear the memory of the Indian may be offensive to Indians when they really are offensive to the Leftists.
Ha! That picture is awesome!
We went through the same issue at my high school thirty years ago. They asked for suggestions for names, so I started an underground campaign to change the name of the football team to “The Wombats”. They had an election, and “The Wombats” won, going away.
At that point our PE Teacher, of towering intellect, changed the name to “Falcons”.
I think it would be funny as all get out if the license lapses, and every other person on the Eastern Seaboard winds up wearing cut-rate knock-off Redskin jerseys. I may have to buy one, just for the counter-cultural cachet!
It might be interesting to find which congressmen owned stock in the Redskins and Redskins marketing and suddenly dropped it in the last few days.
The logo for Notre Dame is a stereotypically dressed Irish leprechaun.
The Minnesota team is named after a pejorative for Norsemen with a stereotypical Norseman as the mascot.
Someone needs to do something about this.
Using the power of the federal government to target individuals? Far less than anything Nixon did. So does anyone still think Obama didn’t use the IRS to target Freedom groups?
Take ‘em to court.
