...When someone says to you "Thank You for YOUR Service" and you know/think THEY were JUST TOO were JUST too DAMN GUTLESS and/or SPINELESS to Serve Themselves(especially "Men(boys)of Draft and/or Military Age)"?

What bugs me is that an apparent majority don’t know that there’s a difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
In the 60's, when you'd leave Camp Pendleton, you were "Service Trash"...
It does not bother me at all.
Some people stand up and serve and most, for many reasons we will never know, do not.
I served, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I am part of the .45% and proud of what I did and what the entire United States Military did and still does today.
Nope, when I was in and for many years after I got out “Thank you for your service” was the last thing anybody would say to me or any other Vet.
Frankly, complaining about it, reflects rather poorly on a Vet ...IMHO
It bothers me a little on Memorial Day. I don’t feel worthy. I survived.
I’ll never stop thanking vets for their service. If it’s offensive to a few, so be it. I don’t want to chance the opportunity to thank and appreciate those who’ve sacrificed so much, for my freedoms.

US Navy Vet, I would appreciate it if you could help me with a question. My total service was less than 180 days (ROTC), and I never felt comfortable standing up with the other guys who served for years and/or saw combat. What is the respectful thing for me to do when someone asks “will all our veterans please stand up?”
I assume from your comment that you are ‘active’ duty, otherwise how would they know you are a Vet unless you put yourself in a position to be recognized.
My father was wounded Marine in the Pacific in WWII, and brother was a wounded Marine in VN, but for health reasons I could not serve. I thanks Vets all the time.

As I have gotten older I more and more realize that it is I who owe the thanks to the nation for giving me the opportunity and allowing me the privilege of serving.
So I would say, generally; “No America, thank you.”
Well said and I totally agree. I am so very thankful I was given the opportunity to shoulder the huge responsibilities I was handed. Only in the Military would a teenager and then a young officer of 26 be given such massive responsibility.

I get really ticked when someone who chose not to serve explains that it is only for the lower to middle class. This guy was an attorney. After I made a comment about what he was full of, I promptly told him I have two sons who are graduates of service academies. Though I was a “hog farmer’s” son and also happened to go to a service academy, my business life involved the starting and selling of 3 companies. My sons could have gone to any school in the nation, they chose service to the nation and are still doing so.

Not at all. If anything I get a bit embarrassed. I’ve done plenty of time in combat and dodged my share of mortar rounds...but the fact is that I came home in one piece and a lot of my friends did. My son the Marine simply says “Thank you for your support”...something I’ll start using myself.
I’m retired now but love buying meals or drinks for our young uniformed folks at the airport. These kids, unlike me, joined up in the middle of a war.
Ditto, and not just on Memorial Day for me.
I was 8 years USAF, 3 years, Vermont Air Guard.
Never in a position to be shot at.
Sure, we lost a lot in my first career field to industrial accidents, but that was just part of the job.
To me, what I did in the service was just a job.
For "them that's been shot at", it's a whole different story.
I do ask each person who thanks my wife and me for our service if the vote for democrats.
If the answer is yes, I tell them to stop wasting their breath "thanking" vets, as the democrats hate us.
No. It’s not for everyone.
In the 1940's and before, military service was a badge of honor for those of the "upper class".
You were expected to serve, and most were very happy to do so.
This strange attitude today was probably brought on by leftist professors.
