DOVER, Del. - The Dover Air Force Base is on lockdown because of a suspicious person on base.
Dover Air Force Base Public Affairs said the base went on lockdown around 11:00 a.m.

Isn't that the new military terminology for putting on a condom?
You have GOT to be kidding. Are you using sarcasm? Please say yes!!
Shelter in place = cower while holding your boyfriend.

From the article:
As a precautionary measure, base officials implemented base lockdown procedures and instructed all personnel to shelter in place.
The safety of our people is our top priority, said Col. Randy Huiss, 436th Airlift Wing vice wing commander. We take this report very seriously and are taking the necessary precautions to investigate this matter.
Col. Randy Huiss - must be pronounced 'Randy Wuss". He probably is...
ff
So HQ USAF issued a study that took several years to complete, which proved there was a huge, glaring hole in air base defense, and all the AP/SPs and augmentees couldn't fill it, especially in the first few minutes. In fact, it was well known that for high priority EUCOM bases, Soviet Army units where given the mission to take out all assets as a precusor to overall combat. They would be led by Spetznatz trained officers, but didn't need Spetznatz troops because the Soviets didn't think unarmed airmen would be too much of a problem.
I believe Tom Clancy wrote about this in Red Storm Rising, where the war begins with Spetznatz forces infiltrating the Metro Tango facility at Hahn AB and kill everyone in the command post.
I worked USAFSS/ESC/AFIC in Europe. The joke we used to tell before the fall of the Warsaw Pact/Soviet Union was, "If we (in the SCIF) were dead, the war must have started."
Another case of work place violence. No Gee-Had here.
Ah, give him a break. He’s obligated to follow the official line, stupid though it may be. It’s like your doctor. He probably wouldn’t touch a statin with a ten-foot pole, but if he doesn’t prescribe them to you, and you end up with a heart attack, you can sue the hell out of him.
This lockdown bullshit is getting old...on a friggin’ military base!
Wish I were. I have to leave my carry weapon at home when I pull reserve duty so I carry 2 knives and a wad of keys on a reinforced lanyard. Not near enough space between me and the threat, but you use what you can.
Latest from the link...
“Military officials said in a news release that the lockdown was ordered as a precautionary measure after a suspicious individual was reported near Building 706 at around 11 a.m. Officials said it remained in effect until 2:40 p.m. when it was lifted after the reports of a suspicious person turned out to be false.”
What a joke. Cowering for hours for nothing.
It does have it's uses. I think the word is misused these days. A base lockdown is used for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's to restrict access to the facility regardless of if you are stationed at said base. This keeps the bad guys out. Sometimes it keeps the perps in. Don't want someone committing a crime and heading off base where the military has no jurisdiction. During natural disasters it keeps military personnel from leaving the base and civilians from mobbing the base.

Your post came at the time of approximate lift. I would like to pose a question.
Notices particularly no word yet on what triggered the incident or how it was resolved for was off the net at that time.
Have been hearing and do not know this to be fact so will call it a rumor that this was a planned exercise. A test, so to speak. Don't know if this event fits into that category or not; thus this question: Should you hear other than was a planned exercise or test will you email me, please?
Those 3 words, along with hearing, "Would you would prefer a private screening area for the pat down procedure?", at any American airport, are a reminder to me that the terrorists of September 11, 2001... have won.
Yes, I’ll let you know. Hopefully by tomorrow someone will know something a bit more definitive.
“During a base infiltration on Ton Son Nhat AB by the Viet Cong in 1968, they found a lot of airman killed, who had no immediate access to firearms. They were slaughtered.”
After Kennedy was killed, LBJ proceeded to make and put a lot of our military people into unarmed and helpless targets, often in harm’s way as your post.
LBJ, put the Pueblo and Liberty in harm’s way and failed to back them up.
Hahahahaha Ed!
i hear ya...we have an entire military base cowering in place due to one 'suspicious' person being reported ???
arms are the business of the military, if they cant be trusted to defend themselves, then whats the point of them being there anyways ???
Im sure theres a local SWAT team gearing up to do the "hut hut" and save those poor troops...
How about just giving people the option to exercise their right to carry?
