NBA Suspends Clippers’ Owner Donald Sterling For Life, Imposes $2.5 Million Fine
CBS LA ^ | April 29, 2014 | Unattributed

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced Tuesday Clippers owner Donald Sterling will be suspended for life and fined $2.5 million in response to the racist remarks he allegedly made in a recorded audio clip.

Silver spoke to the press at 11 a.m. news conference from New York, stating he will “do everything in my power” to force the sale of the Clippers.

“The hateful opinions voiced by that man are those of Mr. Sterling. The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful. That they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage,” Silver said. “I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers association or the NBA. Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices, he may not be present at any Clippers facility, and he may not participate in any business or decisions involving the team.”

You are right that the Bill of Rights limits government, not individuals. However, if it is true that this recording was obtained illegally, it will probably not be admissible in a court in the state of California. There are laws against suing illegal recordings as evidence of anything, even if the party seeking to introduce them is not at fault. That would make it interesting in court. “We banned Sterling”. “Why?” “Well we can’t tell you.”

It depends how the franchise is set-up in the bi-laws but they could. The problem the NBA runs into here is that these sanctions to the Clippers will lessen the value of all other NBA teams. Who is going to risk big bucks and buy a team if the NBA can just sweep in and take it away on a whim.

That sounds credible. He was certainly interested in certain assets of the team owner already.

For remarks included in a a private conversation? Why is no one outraged by the release of a tape of a person's private conversation?

Besides, what can the NBA do if Sterling simply says, 'Bite me.'?

Before the press conference, read that Sterling said Clippers not for sale..regardless of what Silver did.
Court battle? sounds like he’s not going away quietly.

Magic Johnson has always been a womanizer, how do you think he got AIDS(Well there are those rumors about him and Isiah Thomas, moving on) I wouldnt be surprised if he set this up so that he could swoop in and buy the team..remember, from the taped conversations, who is Sterling most mad at, Magic..this same girlfriend was also in a photo with Matt Kemp(Dodger) but that didn’t set him off..only the photo of Magic did, tells me there is a lot more to this story that we don’t know about. Also if Magic buys the Clippers, a former Laker buying the team of a rival, that would look pretty bad..but Magic hasn’t had any involvement with the Lakers in a while, in fact he sometimes takes part in the trash talking

Went looking for those “Secret NBA Bylaws” article 35.

That's actually a clause from the NBA player contract, not the league bylaws.

Racist Sterling has a black girlfriend.

So did lots of Democrats in times past, on their plantations. That's why we have light skinned blacks. He's just old-fashioned.

Sterling bought the team for 12M and will sell it for 500M

He never used the “N” word in those recordings, as far as I know.

This is a private matter between “consenting adults” as the left likes to say.

And it’s also illegal to record a telephone conversation without the other party’s knowledge, which hasn’t been made clear if it was or wasn’t.

Too bad our government doesn’t mete out punishment as quickly and as harshly as the NBA does to bigots like Biden and Reid.

Sterling has a past of saying and doing racist things, but this is thoughtcrime type punishment.

You get in an argument with your g/f about who she is seeing in a private conversation and 48 hours after that private conversation is leaked, you are basically forced to sell your business?

And the NBA commish feigning ignorance regarding Sterling’s past behavior was icing on the cake.

Magic would always be a minority owner. He has some capital, but to enough to be a big player. He is popular in LA and with the players. He would be a figurehead for the team, but some conglomerate will buy, just like the dodgers.

Shaq under fire for mocking disabled fan’s selfie

http://nypost.com/2014/04/28/shaq-under-fire-for-mocking-disabled-fans-selfie/

With missing teeth and abnormal hair growth caused by the rare disorder ectodermal dysplasia, the Michigan man is used to getting bullied — but Shaq’s mockery was too much to bear.

He considered Shaq his basketball idol and respected the former high-profile athlete’s charitable works and advocacy for disadvantaged children in America.

“I’ve been getting teased since I was yay (sic) tall. People laugh at me, stare at me,” Binion said. “I was kind of hurt because I’ve always looked up to him. I’ve watched Shaq play basketball since I was (inaudible), so I was like, why are you making fun of me? He is supposed to be this role model.”

The supposed transgression was a PRIVATE conversation recorded secretly

Apparently not. Apparently Sterling was aware it was being recorded, and apparently there was a third party present. Apparently the recording was acquired legally and can be admitted in evidence in a lawsuit.

Just reporting on what's being reported.

Sterling’s no stranger to court battles but he didn’t get this far in real estate by holding onto diminishing assets which the Clippers now are.

He had 10 percent ownership of the Lakers and gave it away..wanted to put full focus on his ownership of the Dodgers, which is fine..but for him to buy the Clippers would be a slap in the face to Laker fans
