LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced Tuesday Clippers owner Donald Sterling will be suspended for life and fined $2.5 million in response to the racist remarks he allegedly made in a recorded audio clip.
Silver spoke to the press at 11 a.m. news conference from New York, stating he will “do everything in my power” to force the sale of the Clippers.
“The hateful opinions voiced by that man are those of Mr. Sterling. The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful. That they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage,” Silver said. “I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers association or the NBA. Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices, he may not be present at any Clippers facility, and he may not participate in any business or decisions involving the team.”

If I were Stirling I would file a anti-trust suit and ask for $2bil.
The supposed transgression was a PRIVATE conversation recorded secretly. NBA is WAY out on a limb here.
The same people who are shrieking about the NSA spying on them have no problem at all with spying on somebody they don’t like.
I demand Harry Reid be suspended forthwith for saying obama was “clean and articulate” and that obama didn’t have “ a NEGRO dialect”!!!

And to seal the deal, the NBA made it clear today that the action was solely due to the recording, and had nothing to do with any previous rumors or transgressions…..so you may just be right.

The NBA hired arguably the best law firm in the world (Wachtell) to handle this investigation.

Why not - under force of the Government - take away his franchise and all his other holdings and redistrubute them to the poor?
Sterling likely receives far more than $2.5 million from the NBA each year (TV revenue, etc.). They can just withhold the fine from those payments.

L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling, whom commentators tried to tie to the Republican party immediately after his alleged racist statements became public, has in fact only given money to Democratic candidates, according to campaign-contribution records.
