How Now White Cowman ... Mark Steyn
Steyn Online ^ | 25 Apr 2014 | Mark Steyn

Like everyone else, Gavin McInnes has weighed in on Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy's observations on "the Negro". Mr McInnes concludes:

This isn't about some old guy's views on slavery. It's about government control. We're not saying Bundy is the messiah and we accept him as our personal savior. We're saying the government is wrong.

Let's stipulate that Cliven Bundy is a racist. Let's also assume, if only to save time, that he's Islamophobic, homophobic and transphobic. So what? Does that make criticizing the Bureau of Land Management "racist" or "homophobic"?

Indeed but the GOP will still chase their tail.

Mark Steyn dittos. Like him almost as much as Rush. The man hits the nail on the head every time. How people can sit back and watch their individual freedoms being taken away and not say a word is beyond me. But then again, our choices at the ballot box these days are pretty slimy.

I wouldn't ass/u/me anything about Bundy being racist. He just pointed out one of the most unconstitutional, invasive, and pervasive overreaches of Federal Governance (the Democrat Plantation), and everyone seems to be having cartwheeling fits of diarrhea trying to distance themselves from the man and what he actually pointed out.

The overreach of the Federal Government is far from limited to some rangeland in the boonies, and the armies enabling, enforcing, and collecting the money to pay for these most universal and destructive of Federal programs vastly outnumber the 200 BLM JBTs sent to put the Bundys out of business.

As has been pointed out in the first news of this devastating situation, the desert tortoise is endangered by the presence of cattle. Yet, for a very large sum of money to the government, a cattle raiser can use the land and to hell with the tortoise. So, it’s obviously NOT ABOUT THE TORTOISE.

These lines from Steyn are extremely important:
“No one -Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Mao, Franco -had devised a form of totalitarianism appealing enough to seduce (Anglo-nations). Now they have. As the Bundy example illustrates, a free people will cheerfully abandon bedrock principles like equality before the law if state power is being used to torment a racist or a homophobe or someone whose very presence offends against the citizenry’s sense of its own virtue.”

Till you neuter the “racist” word you will have no conservative movement of any heft, no matter how much you grovel or weep.

"Yet, for a very large sum to the government, a cattle raiser can use the land........"

The grazing fees, measured in a monthly fee per cow/calf unit, are very, very cheap. Much cheaper than what it costs to graze on private land.

There are a huge number of these grazing leases thru-out the western states and in total, the cow/calf economy is huge and a substantial benefit to the western states.

And if you add up the congressional delegations from all these states, they have enough power in Congress to prevent Congress from raising the grazing fees.

Drudge posted the unedited version of Bundy’s rant. It appears that the Times cherrypicked it to make it appear far worse than it was. Why isn’t this being reported as much as the original story?

Bundy didn’t say anything Bill Cosby hasn’t been saying for years. Bundy is no more racist than Steyn. It boggles the mind to see supposed conservatives buying into the NY Times lies. For those of us from the West who have worked the land, it is disconcerting to know city slickers will never really get it though they can dance around it all day long; especially East Coasters. Note to Steyn: stop trying to give yourself more creds by continuing the lie that Bundy is a racist. It only points out your bigotry towards those who work for you in bringing food to your table.

Never better. I have been saying much the same thing...

"the purpose of the federal bureaucracy's "grazing fee" was never to provide a fair-market value for the cost to taxpayers of permitting grazing on public land but simply to drive those cattle off the land, and their owners out of the ranching business. As a form of coercion, it worked. But it is not a "law" that should command any respect."

Over the last two or three decades, the Bureau has squeezed the ranchers in southern Nevada by limiting the acres on which their cattle can graze, reducing the number of cattle that can be on federal land, and charging grazing fees for the ever-diminishing privilege. The effect of these restrictions has been to drive the ranchers out of business. Formerly, there were dozens of ranches in the area where Bundy operates. Now, his ranch is the only one.

An unaccountable, radical left agency controls more land than "France, Germany, and Italy" combined.

Congress didn't raise the fees. Congress must pass positive laws to counter Obama's ministers. That isn't going to happen in Obama's senate.

Events such as these are not supposed to happen in our constitutional republic.

Just So brilliant!!

"As the Bundy example illustrates, a free people will cheerfully abandon bedrock principles like equality before the law if state power is being used to torment a racist or a homophobe or someone whose very presence offends against the citizenry's sense of its own virtue." P>And so pre-Nazi era as well.

Nobody is reading what was written about what Bundy said. They are watching/listening to the videotaped interviews and to the actual words that came out of his mouth.

If a white man calls someone a Negro, he is a racist, even though we still have the NAACP.

If a white man calls someone a ni##er, he is a racist, even though it is OK for them to use that word when talking to another.

If a white man calls someone a black man, he is a racist and is told he should use the term African American.

Next, if a white man calls someone an African American, he will be told he should use the term American of African decent.

Bottom line, the white man will always be called a racist, because it always puts him on the defensive in any argument and he can’t win in a politically correct world.

The grazing fees haven't gone up for decades and the prez has nothing to do with setting the fees so I don't see how you can blame the present president or the BLM.

Do you think senators, Orrin Hatch, Mike Lee, Harry Reid, Diane Feinstein, or any other member of congress from these western states are going to vote to raise the grazing fee?
