Is Cliven Bundy a "Racist"? Where’s the PROOF?

Media leftists falsely attack rancher Cliven Bundy as a racist.

Is Cliven Bundy a “Racist”? Where’s the PROOF?

The New American
25 April 2014

Here we go again. You had to know it was coming. When the Left wants to distract America from the central point of a burning issue, they find (or manufacture) a “gotcha” moment and yell “RACISM!”

So it is no surprise that embattled Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, whose struggle against the federal government’s overreach has won widespread sympathy, has ended up as the latest victim of “race card” politics.

“But haven't you heard the TERRIBLE RACIST comments he made?” the critics scream. “It’s on video, in his own words; Cliven Bundy SUPORTS SLAVERY!”

Actually, yes, we’ve watched “the” video comments that have caused such a raging firestorm amongst the “progressive” mainstream-media commentariat, and that also have caused panic and consternation amongst Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians who have supported Cliven Bundy.

Many of these erstwhile supporters have been caught off-guard and frightened into denouncing Bundy as a “racist” and his remarks as “vicious” and “reprehensible.”

But it might be helpful to take a calm look at what he actually said and see if it really should be engendering so much angst and furor amongst the political and chattering classes. In the video below, from which the New York Times selected its excerpts to stir up the racism charge, Cliven Bundy makes some statements that are sympathetic to Blacks and Mexicans. He states:

I was in the Watts riots. I seen the beginning fire and I seen the last fire. What I seen was civil disturbance, people were not happy. People thinking they don’t have freedom, didn’t have these things — and they didn’t have them. We’ve progressed quite a bit from that day until now, and we sure don’t want to go back. We sure don’t want these colored people to go back to that point. We sure don’t want the Mexican people to go back to that point. And we can make a difference right now by taking care of some of these bureaucracies and do it in a peaceful way....

....

Much of what Mr. Bundy is saying closely parallels what even many black leaders, authors and intellectuals — such as Prof. Walter Williams, Rev. C.L. Bryant, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Bill Cosby, Alveda King, Star Parker, and Alan Keyes — have been saying. But Cliven Bundy’s “sin” is that he is an elderly white man who is unschooled in traversing the minefield of political correctness — and he was careless in failing to make important distinctions and clarifications. He “sinned” by being born when he was born, and failing to keep up with the constantly changing terminology for ethnic designations. He still uses the terms “Negro,” “colored people,” and “Mexican,” instead of “black/ African American” or “Hispanic/Latino” — but then, race activists still argue amongst themselves concerning the “proper” ethnic label to apply to their lineage and group identity.

There is a direct connection between his comments and the BLM situation. If you do not see it, I do not know what to say.

It is the truth. The fact men cower in the face of it is why we have the mess we do. The BLM has treated the public as slaves on the land of the Kings Deer. I fought them...that exact office in fact, for many years over OHV/landuse issues while Senior Ed at off-Road.com in the 90z/2000s. I know full well the elitism there and how the genpub is looked on.

Bundy’s slave comments indirectly to the issue have launched ANOTHER long overdue conversation on the subject of Blacks and government destruction. They together and separate are needed. Man the hell up and fight the battle.

The PC mob can’t distinguish between a learned discussion on black urban subculture and racism

Bundy was speaking of culture, not race

You think that he will not have support...I think he will. Millions of folk are tired of Central Government overreach, and the suppression of the First Amendment...gutted via “political correctness”. I will stand with Bundy. Where will you stand?

I ask, because my black friends are closet conservative....cowed by political correctness. Yes, I call them coward.

What I am saying is that he totally changed the discussion.

No he didn't. He was talking about the negative influence of government in people's lives. Right on topic.

The ‘can’. They just don’t want to in order to push their liberal agenda do they selectively use it as needed. Same as it ever was.

Except now they are here playing ‘conservative’ to wrench up any opposition to it before it ever forms.

We shall see if he has lost his real support. I am not sure the folks that went to his side are the type to be bothered by PC stuff, or the race card being played.

People who play politics have to really worry about such things, but this is not politics to Bundy and the people that stood with him that day.

CNN interviewed a Black man that is one of Bundy’s body guards and he said Bundy is not racist and has treated him like one of his family.

"...one of the people defending the one-time far-right-wing folk hero is one of his bodyguards - who happens to be black.

Jason Bullock has been at Bundy's side since his battle with the federal government began heating up in late March. According to Bullock, the man he's come to know over the last month is not a racist.

In fact, Bullock says he would take a bullet for Bundy."

the concern is ‘winning’. Nothing else. There are a number of people willing to ignore honesty, truth, principle and the very things that make America “America”. Sacrifices must be made you see.

Bu....but....they has a R velcroed to their sleeve, and they swore on a stack of NY Times that they was conservative! Don't that count for anything?

Our librals is better than theirs, Norm!

I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one Windy. I’m trying. Really. But I really have to blame Granny for my dysfunction. She taught me that stupid people are, for lack of a better term...’stupid’. And you gotta admit, going on right wing websites and declaring their rock ribbed conservatism by mouthing left wing talking points using their exact language any street rat liberal uses is pretty freaking stupid.

I think though, my favorite part is when they spin out and hit the wall like our acquaintance ‘ditchguppy’ (name changed to protect thread posters from his moronic Yosemite Sam on a dragon ‘That’s you’ posts).

But we just don’t know any better I guess. You know, since we voted for Obama and all /s

We will see. It is easy to make fun but what does Rush say? I was unable to hear him today.

Rush says that Rush is an entertainer. I take him at his word these days. Sure a lot of it meshes with what I think but since he went AWOL on this for a week, where he stands is obvious. On his wallet.

Which is fine. But he shouldn’t expect the support he used to get because of it.

That doesn’t surprise me ONLY because had he said anything, I am sure that MSM would shout if from the rooftop especially if it was in support of Bundy.

It doesn’t surprise me either to be honest. But since we have so many like him at all levels of society unwilling to take a stand on anything, we ended up in a country that believes principles are bad, purity is evil and winning is all that matters.

We have a majority opposition congress that refuses to oppose, we have two indistinguishable political parties and we have what appears to be WW3 around the next corner.

We have right wing media spouting left wing talking points like Pavlov is their program director (when they aren’t balled up in a corner fearing mere words from the NYT), we have a President that thinks he’s Nero that EVERYONE in media is too much the coward to complain about in public. And we have a Right wing base that absolutely cannot send their $100 monthly tithe to the Dish/cable company for to help fund it all.

No, I am not surprised at all.

EDIT:

And we have a Right wing base that absolutely cannot send their $100 monthly tithe to the Dish/cable company -—fast enough in order-— to help fund it all.

He didn’t say anything that wasn’t true—as far as “morality”-he condemned abortion, crime resulting in wasting one’s life in jail, destroyed families etc.

The people who hated him before in a knee jerk fashion wouldn’t have changed their minds about him no matter what. Where’s the loss? There are a lot of folks who do agree with the basic theme of his statement. Even if you don’t, most adults should be able to separate his views on that subject, agree or disagree, from the BLM issue.

Norm, you speak the truth—but I can’t help but wonder if there wasn’t a black bodyguard speaking up, would you be on Bundy’s side? Sounds like a good guy (the bodyguard) but why do we have to have that? I for one don’t have to desperately seek validation from a black person to form an opinion—that’s part of the problem these days.
