NBC orders psychological testing for David Gregory

NBC’s “Meet the Press” has fallen to such ratings lows that network brass ordered psychological research of the host David Gregory and his family, in a bid to make him more likable.

Friends of Gregory and even his wife were interviewed by a psychologist commissioned by NBC to find out how the host of the flagship Sunday morning show might relate to audiences better.

The Washington Post reported, “Last year, the network undertook an unusual assessment of the 43-year-old journalist, commissioning a psychological consultant to interview his friends and even his wife.

“The idea, according to a network spokeswoman, Meghan Pianta, was ‘to get perspective and insight from people who know him best.’ But the research project struck some at NBC as odd, given that Gregory has been employed there for nearly 20 years.”

The days of “Meet the Press” ruling Sunday mornings seem a long time ago — now it is in third place.

Fresh faces and new ideas would help.

MTP has the same problem the other Sunday news talkies have: the same ole crap week after week discussed by the same ole consultants week after week and the same ole guests week after week.

Notice the discussion panels on all of these are the same ones. They shift from one program to another as their contracts end. And not a one of them has had a new original thought in 20+ years.

Right away the Psych can rule out that he needs to become more liberal.

Give the guy a break.. How would you feel, lying to Americans night after night, fed scripts from Media Matters you know to be false and twisted..? Doing this not only because your bosses tell you to do it but because you WANT to be a part of the transformation of the country, even though you know it is going to reduce the quality of life for your loved ones and all the people the world over...My guess is it is a daily fight not to do away with himself for being the slimy communist stooge he is.

They went from jack-o-lantern to snow monkey. It was too big of a transition for the public.

Exactly. You would think all these NBC execs would look over to MSNBC and their truly putrid ratings to figure out that nobody likes watching liberals. This isn’t rocket science fellas!

Psychological testing on a liberal?
That’s like metal detecting on a box of nails.

The scary part is that THESE GUYS were tested -- and they all passed.

The guy on the right has some kind of long stain down the inside of his pant leg and that guy on the far left is really creepy – especially when his Adam's Apple jumps around when he gets excited!

My grandmother would not permit unkind talk about another person so I must say that Tim Russert had the prettiest frog body that I have ever seen.

Each Sunday he was magnificent as he would sit perched on the front edge of his chair ready to pounce with amazing athletic ability and cleanse with his elegant frog tongue whatever conservative would be trembling before him.

A particularly marvelous display of his enormous talent was the amazing interview with Dan Burton and excerpts from the Hubble prison tapes. Poor Dan paid a big price while trying to pull a fast one over on the most diligent master interviewer, “Tim Russert”.

I’m convinced that the guy is faker than a $3 dollar bill, and he dyes his hair gray, has been doing it for years, in order to lend the impression of gravitas ...

Being able to play politics well inside the world of NBCNews doesn’t necessarily mean one is going to appeal to the public. Particularly the small audience for Sunday morning talk. IOW NBC brass learned the wrong lessons from Tim Russert’s success.

Maybe is these liberal reporters would actually get out into the real world between the Coasts; they would become more likeable. They may actually surprise themselves with their new-found wisdom.

The problem isn't ‘likable’ or not 'likable'. David Gregory's likable enough for the company cocktail party or bonding exercise, the Country Club golf course.

That's not the issue. “Meet the Press” isn't a beauty pageant for ‘perky ’ men to answer questions in a cute way or to ask them in a fetching way.

When I listen to Gregory I feel someone else writes the questions for him... that he's a puppet mouthing words. If the ear piece quit working or the teleprompter went on the fritz, Gregory would stop - he would have no idea what to say.

Tim Russert came across as a NEWSMAN - knowledgeable - Russert was involved with the process of politics - he knew his stuff... David Gregory comes across as an actor. A fairly good actor. Probably a 'nice' person actor... But not a newsman who who's knowledgeable - and the show doesn't feel even mildly authentic.

NBC will always pick a liberal because of their bias... that can't be helped. But they could pick an intelligent liberal... someone like Jon Stewart. Someone who understands the issues (from a liberal point of view) and asks his own questions and his own follow ups... Or they could go totally to the edge and hire an intelligent conservative...

“Why spend all that time and money with the psychological study?..”

Good question. Maybe he knows where the bodies are buried, so they can’t fire him. :)

If NBC had a brain, they’d replace him with a conservative. But liberalism is more important to them than ratings.

He’s wooden and boring and shrill. It doesn’t take a g*d damn degree in psychology to see why viewers don’t like him.
