For a radical progressive who once harbored negative stereotypes about folks on the right, it was a turning point for me: Though Sean Hannity or Sarah Palin and I disagree profoundly on politics they're personable, kind, and human. If you want to persuade people, you cant demonize them.
In the fall of 2013, I gave a TED talk on what I learned as a progressive, on-air talking head at Fox News, where I worked for two years before leaving and joining my current home, CNN. After all, one of the most frequent questions I was asked during my time at Fox was how I did it, how I was a fox in the henhouse or a hen in the Fox house, if you will.
The questions came mostly from fellow liberals who had not watched much Fox News but had seen the most outlandish clips of Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity that had made it to "The Daily Show" or YouTube. They perhaps imagined that walking down the hallway outside makeup, Mr. O'Reilly might yell then, too, instead of just saying hello. That's a funny notion, but it couldn't be further from the truth.
My time at Fox News was marked by meeting and working with some of the kindest, smartest, and most talented people I've had the pleasure of meeting in life. As I said in my TED talk, Sean Hannity is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet and even now that I've parted ways with Fox, he remains a good friend and mentor.

You just described liberals!
I'm guessing that it was for the same reason that Johnny Cash sang about in "A Boy Named Sue". :-))
This isn't always true. Some companies become convinced that the "bets" are too low. If the company has accumulated a lot of cash, they can raise the value of their stock by buying up shares at market prices, thus increasing the value represented by the remaining shares.
Many of the most successful companies recently are sitting on huge piles of cash and no really great ideas about how to put it to work. I believe that there are tax consequences to declaring cash dividends that are avoided by using stock buy backs to increase shareholder value.
Since I am in retirement, I am growing more fond of stocks with regular dividends. One company I invested in has a price-to-earnings ratio of about twelve and a yearly dividend of 3.5%. This means that I will make 3.5% on my money even if they don't manage to increase the share value.
That has been my experience on numerous sites I use as well as in public discourse with them on the left around Puget Sound.
NPR show.
“...they softened her image significantly, but they could never wash away the diesel....”
The `diesel’ - LOL!
“NewsCorp execs endorsed John Kerry in 2004. I guess because GW Bush was too extreme even for them.”
And some wonder why we don’t trust the so-called moderates? They seem more allied with Democrats than us. LOL. GW Bush was a moderate/centrist in my opinion. He may have meant well, but he didn’t cut much (any?) and added more on his watch.
So what if he talked a good game on some of the social issues. Did he change the game on any of those? Correct me if I’m wrong. Was GW Bush more conservative than I give him credit for? Oh, he was so extreme—an extremely extreme conservative! LOL.
And this applies to Sean Hannity as well.
When she makes the mistake of stepping outside the lockstep mindset and she finds out how mean her lefty colleagues really are.
It’s part of the leftist assumptive worldview that they, their policies, and their intentions are moral and anyone who opposes them, therefore, is immoral and not worthy of conducting discourse with.
In a way, this insulates them from having to discuss the merits of their positions and avoid the negative consequences of their policies.
Exactly;)
Libards are irrational and want altruism, collectivism, statism, and socialism. This is the opposite of the principles of the founding fathers.
That is one of the problems I have with Hannity and Ailes. Kohn is a despicable Marxist who has said absolutely disgraceful things and stands for everything we oppose. You DON'T "mentor" someone like her, and you don't give her airtime to advance her goals.
RE: You DON’T “mentor” someone like her, and you don’t give her airtime to advance her goals.
Fox News Motto: “Fair and BALANCED”.
Maybe they should change their motto.
What we need to do is to step back even further to view the entire picture. Fox News is smart to cover both sides of the political spectrum because, it MAKES BUSINESS SENSE. Ailes is no dummy. He has to be cleaning up right now with the foolish leftist MSM. Emotions are running high. All he has to do is provide both sides in a civil way.
Fox is very balanced compared to the rest of the media. Fox has conservative and liberal hosts while you can take all of the alphabet news channels and major newspapers COMBINED and barely find a handful of conservative people representing the opposing point of view.
As I got older I was surprised to find people who were very nice and identified as Republicans. I thought to myself that these people can't be Republicans. All Republicans were terrible people who wanted to oppress minorities and rob the poor. Or so I had been told by Big Lib Media.
Sounds like you made a wise choice of locations !
I also thought it was because “Sue” was taken!
The Lord prompted it. Interestingly, if you go to the “one hour meltdown” story on the web, at the end he describes the attributes of the perfect bug-out site in a bunch of bullet points. It precisely describes the place we picked.
