Russia and Israel seem to have a growing affinity for each other. A few weeks ago, Israel abstained from a vote in the UN censuring Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported [link at URL] that this is a sore spot for the White House and a diplomatic novum on the world scene.
A senior Israeli official said that Israel's absence from the United Nations vote was viewed around the world as an extremely irregular measure, a departure from a long-standing Israeli policy of voting with the United States in the UN. While the Americans viewed Israel's behavior as ungrateful, in light of Washington's unshakable support for Jerusalem in the UN, in the Kremlin and in the Russian media Israel's action was seen as an expression of support for Moscow, or at the very least a lack of opposition for the invasion of Ukraine. [Haartez].

This also wouldn't be the first time that there was a significant split on an international question between American neoconservatives and Israel's leaders. Just compare how Netanyahu felt [link at URL] about the Arab Spring to the feeling of the neoconservatives [link at URL]. For the former it was a nightmare, for the latter, a dream come true.

I think history will show that everyone saw through it. the problem is that no one has the guts to oppose the mainstreaming of islam because every one of these countries has hit the tipping point where opposition to it equals rioting, dead native citizens and the associated fall from power for the people who allowed it.
So in a classic case of kicking the can, they pretend fantasy is reality and take out their frustrations on a classic scapegoat.
Well, duh.
Obama is Israel’s enemy.
It looks like Israel is the one quietly cozying up to Russia, not the other way around, given what the Obama administration has shown a penchant for.
And I imagine that Netanyahu, or whomever is at the helm, will take another look at this recent ‘getting along’ after Putin is gone.
If Israel’s now virtually surrounded by radicalized Muslim fundies, it’s largely their own fault, having lobbied so long and hard for the demolition of Saddam’s secular regime in Iraq. Israel pushed over the first domino, unleashing uncontained muslim fanaticism on themselves and the rest of the world. They thought they were getting payback for those scud attacks in the first Gulf War. I hope they’re satisfied.
Magnesium level stupidity. What reality are you from?
Russia launches many Israeli satellites including defense purposed units.
The few disagreements are negotiated to solution by adults.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy. Proverbs 27:6
Excellent points, and great insight as well.
The Iraq was was a disaster, for us and for Israel, even though they worked so hard for it. I wish it were only a matter of the trillion dollars we blew on it, but even worse are the regional destabilization and islamist radicalization, which will outlast our lifetimes.

Interesting viewpoint.
First of all, the issue isn't the relationship between neo-conservative (I recognize that to many people that's code for Jews) and Israel, it's the US and Israel.
The administration has already indicated we may not support Israel in the UN, pending their concessions to a local terror state.
Amongst nations receiving US aid, Heritage Foundation:Foreign Aid Recipients Vote Against the U.S., Israel stands out as the only recipient voting with the US a majority of the time, 90.6%, and on important issues one of four over 50% at 95.2%. I don't know if the Ukraine is an important issue.
So Israel, larger than Metropolitan Miama but smaller than Chicago is criticized for abstaining on a vote relating to the regions new power. Those other three nations, Micronesia, Georgia and the Ukraine. The two latter show what support in UN is worth in the region.
IMO it's a lot of chatter about nothing. Other than a reason for the left to attack Israel. It's an example of the lefts double standards. Israel abstains, and becomes a target. Can anyone provide me with articles attacking the other 57 abstentions? Or the 11 no s for that matter.
At that time, Russia was less able to deal with US/NATO Western MSM propaganda whitewashing Georgian atrocities toward ethnic Russians in South Ossetia province. Israel was providing drones and intelligence to Georgia.
Yes, “neo-con” is a code word for Jews in nearly all instances. And those delighting in the state of Israel not voting with the US on this don’t realize that Putin is already supplying Iran with advanced weapons (including a nuclear reactor and the ability to enrich uranium) and Syria. He’s not Israel’s buddy no matter what the Putinistas say or think. And he’s not a defender of Christ.
Iraq was a disaster because Bush caved to liberals and refused to fight it like a war. Fact.
You blame Israel for Iraq and in the same post admit the scuds...
Brilliant.
I’ve always wondered about the cognitive dissonance that neoconservatives must experience when they see their hero Avigdor Lieberman buddy up with their bugbear Putin. It must be enough to make Bill Kristol’s thick head spin like a top.
>Israel abstained from a vote in the UN censuring Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
Good on Israel. There was and is no “invasion of Ukraine” by Russia.
While the US is backing islamic terrorism and the moslem brotherhoodlums, Russia at least attempts to keep the 7th century barbarians at bay.
No annexation, either? Whew, I was worried the Russians might have invaded, or something.
If israel decides to trust Russia and sell them our secrets, well whatever happens is on them.
RE: Russia and Israel seem to have a growing affinity for each other.
So, Israel is going to stay silent on the Ukrainian encroachment?
What if Russia does the same to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania? Israel will stay silent too?
I think it's a much simpler explanation.
I think Israel has made a reasonable choice to change the geopolitical relationship with the US as the direct result of the anti-Israel Obama Administration.
