NAVIGATION
Navigation of a ship at sea is, in principle, a very simple matter: you plot a course between where you are and where you want to be, and let the propeller muscle the ship through the water. As simple as that seems, it wont happen without another very important element: the rudder! The rudder performs its quiet, steady work, unshaken by the tremendous pressures directed against it. And it must hold the true course without deviation.
The navigation of a human life is also, in principle, a very simple matter. As with a ship, there must be motivation and direction. Sea service men and women have shown no shortage of drive, but far too many who abound with energy have experienced the tragic results of inattention to their moral compass.
When a ship drifts off course, the order Mind your helm! quickly follows: Pay attention to your rudders position! The same order in your personal life (Pay attention to moral attitudes and actions.) is a call to mind the moral helm in your life. This internal rudder must be able to withstand the powerful forces that will otherwise constantly push you off your safe and proper course. The proven moral and spiritual values of our heritage provide excellent tools to help you sail a true course, whatever the state of the seas.

Determination
April 13, 2014
Read: Ruth 1:6,11-18;
During a television news report on the plight of refugees displaced from a war-torn country, I was struck by the words of a 10-year-old girl. Despite there being little possibility of returning to their home, she showed a resilient spirit: When we go back, Im going to visit my neighbors; Im going to play with my friends, she said with quiet determination. My father says we dont have a house. And I said we are going to fix it.
There is a place for tenacity in life, especially when it is rooted in our faith in God and love for others. The book of Ruth begins with three women bound together by tragedy. After Naomis husband and two sons died, she decided to return to her home in Bethlehem and urged her widowed daughters-in-law to stay in their country of Moab. Orpah remained but Ruth vowed to go with Naomi, saying, Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God (Ruth 1:16). When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her (v.18), they began their journey together.
Stubbornness is sometimes rooted in pride, but commitment grows from love. When Jesus went to the cross, He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51). From His determination to die for us, we find the resolve to live for Him.
My life, my love, I give to Thee,
Thou Lamb of God who died for me;
Oh, may I ever faithful be,
My Savior and my God! Hudson
Love calls for commitment.

Good evening, Army Bro! Mrs. MacNessa is doing well, thanks!
A beautiful day back here as well - apparently the Cherry Blossoms, at their glorious peak, drew thousands down to the Tidal Basin today - the traffic tie-ups were the stuff of legend.
I stayed home, of course.

Good evening, Mac...*HUGS*...and a Blessed Palm Sunday to the ManNessa family.
Everybody mobile today? And “careful” gardening?
Lots of Mom time on the computer today. She is trying to learn Outlook since moving upstairs from her dead Mac HD. And everything is harder and takes longer because she has to use a magnifying glass to find all the icons, etc. I got a couple “aha” smiles.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion
When Jesus and the disciples drew near Jerusalem
and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives,
Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them,
“Go into the village opposite you,
and immediately you will find an ass tethered,
and a colt with her.
Untie them and bring them here to me.
And if anyone should say anything to you, reply,
‘The master has need of them.’
Then he will send them at once.”
This happened so that what had been spoken through the prophet
might be fulfilled:
Say to daughter Zion,
“Behold, your king comes to you,
meek and riding on an ass,
and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.”
The disciples went and did as Jesus had ordered them.
They brought the ass and the colt and laid their cloaks over them,
and he sat upon them.
The very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road,
while others cut branches from the trees
and strewed them on the road.
The crowds preceding him and those following
kept crying out and saying:
“Hosanna to the Son of David;
blessed is the he who comes in the name of the Lord;
hosanna in the highest.”
And when he entered Jerusalem
the whole city was shaken and asked, “Who is this?”
And the crowds replied,
“This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee.”
