With a single phrase of compassion for immigrants in the U.S. illegally, Jeb Bush has prompted questions about his viability as a potential presidential contender and underscored how divisive the immigration issue remains for the Republican Party.
The former Florida governor sparked a conservative furor this week when he described illegal immigration in an interview as an act of love by people trying to provide for their families.
Backing Bush are some of the GOPs most powerful insiders and financiers, who are hoping the party can woo Hispanic voters and rebound from Mitt Romneys damaging self-deportation rhetoric in 2012.
The worst thing that can happen to a political party is not for voters to decide they dont like you, said Alex Castellanos, a GOP consultant and former Romney adviser. Its for voters to decide you dont like them. And thats where the Republican Party is right now.
Other GOP lawmakers and conservative activists, however, are cringing over Bushs remarks, which triggered vocal opposition and concerns about amnesty.

I hate the word “value”.
Just another in a long line of insincere manipulative linguistic devices.
Jeb Bush is a fool. And anyone listening to anything he has to say is a fool also. Pretend he’s not there.
Or, did he look the other way while the foreign invasion of family love was taking place?
How much love does he have for those who supported and elected him and donated to his campaigns, only to find themselves competing for jobs, educational opportunities and the government service that their taxes pay for?
In other words, whose side is he on? We, the people, or we are the world and that new world's order?
Never mind...I think I know the answer.
Don’t you just love it when these scalawags tell you what values you have or not? I just don’t understand how these educated and world traveled families hatch these totally ignorant turkeys.
Jeb’s “Mexico First” policy is an insult to conservatives.
Allowing foreigners to invade our country, steal from our treasury and to murder and rape Americans isn’t an “American value” either, Jeb.
Like Rush said “How do I get into the shadows?”

Bushies = Shamnesty = LOSERS.
Easy. Join the TEA Party and let the GOPe do the rest.
Jeb's assinine "act of love" comment is as damaging to him as Perry's "you don't have a heart" comment.
Jeb and Perry sneered at voters----suggesting they were superior....that the rest of us just fell off a turnip truck.
Such stupidity in a candidate---not realizing the collateral effect of their words---can never be forgiven.
JBush and the rest of the legalize now crowd want to forgive and reward the misdemeanors of non-Americans, but still continue to punish the misdemeanors of real Americans. Isn’t an American pickpocket just trying to feed his family? What about the American guy underreporting his income? How about the American woman who steals baby formula from a food store? Doesn’t their love of family move you as much as the woes of an illegal alien? Why not a move to understand, to forgive and to reward their transgressions?
“STAY OUT DA BUSHES!”
-Jesse Jackson
Pushers like Jeb and Obama know that shame is a helluva drug.
As if these people have absolutely no responsibility for their behavior? Is there an illegal immigrant gene or something? The elite talk about illegal immigrants as if they just were sucked up by some mean white guys space ship and then popped into the united states and forced to live ‘in the shadows’. What a puke worthy piece of tripe.
Exactly....and no matter how liberal Jeb is, they won’t like the Bushes anymore now than they did then. That’s why “Democratic-Lite” loses every single time....Why vote for that, when you can vote for the real thing?
It’s not the “American way” to cheat those who are waiting in line from places other than Mexico and South America either.
Hiding in the shadows, hiding in the Bushes...
Into the shadows, and out of the Bushes.
