Still, I gotta wonder if these dollar stores overbuilt? I can think of 4-5 within a five mile radius of my home.
I wish there were more Dollar Trees where I live. Those places are awesome! Clean, nice staff, and stuff is actually a dollar!
You know recovery is near when store chains close a significant number of their stores.

FWIW....I live on a tight budget made doable by cutting corners with careful non-wasteful shopping. Family Dollar and most of the others are nowhere near as good for quality + price on basic items as is Dollar General. It would be nice to know how many of these closing Family Dollar stores compete with a nearby Dollar General.
Most shoppers at Doller stores don’t have cars so they have to be within walking or bus range.
The dollar stores are close enough in price that most of the time, we don’t drive the extra 12 miles to the nearest Walmart.
That’s funny - closing 370 stores - they just opened one here about a month ago.
Brother can you spare a dollar!
Around here Family Dollar seems to have most of their stores located deep in “the ‘hood”. Probably makes sense to close them.
DG is not a real dollar store. More like a $3 store like walmart. They will get killed by the walmart neighborhood stores that are popping up all over.
I think so-there are two-Family Dollar is one of them-just over 1/4 mile from each other-in the dead tourist community of maybe 500, that has a general store/grocery as the busiest place-just the same, thanks, Obama for making this community a dead zone...
They can’t close MY Dollar Tree. They sell my favorite Louisiana hot sauce there.
I have a similar count on those stores in my area but most of them seem to be well-patronized.
How do you make pricing mistakes at a dollar store?
The CEO was interviewed during the Democrat convention. He is a big Obama guy. Maybe he hoped for a bailout.
If they aren't making it, I would suggest the next time some administration Bozo says how grand everything is, a savy newsman should walk up and punch him in the right eye as hard as he can.
The town of Confluence, PA. has a Dollar General Store and the entire town shop there, as there is nothing else other than a few small grocery stores..population is around 1200..
The nearest town is Somerset, PA. 24 miles one way and gas in the County is close to 4 dollars a gallon
The town depends for tourism in Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter are pure HELL.. and everyone in the town is on welfare or Social Security.. maybe a few have jobs but they have to travel to get to them
so feel sure the Confluence PA store won’t be one of the ones closed!!!!!!
Are they pinched over over saturated? Them and their competition are everywhere, eventually there just has to be too much ultra cheap junk.
I live in a rural valley with about 5000 people.
The county gave building permits to both Dollar General & Family Dollar to build 2 stores across the street from each other!!! Folly!!! But those structures were brand new & would generate more property taxes!!!!!!
They managed to board up a store that had been here over 22 years in less than 3 months. All those 15 +++ people are now collecting unemployment.
Perhaps one would have been enough.
As I type this, there are more Family Dollar stores being built all around me in other small towns.
I am in Rural Northern Nevada.
