California: By the way, that bullet train isn’t actually going to be as fast as we said it would be

When California first put the issue of building a high-speed bullet train between Los Angeles and San Francisco before voters, Gov. Jerry Brown made all sorts of nifty-sounding promises about how efficient, convenient, and fiscally sound a choice the rail line would be for Californians.
All of those promises have more or less turned out to be a sham by now, as the trains costs have exploded and its deadlines pushed way back, and now it appears that that less-than-three-hour ride Californians were originally promised
well, probably isnt.
...
who really considers a mounting wall of debt and a slew of unfunded pension liabilities a crisis?

One way plane ticket from Los Angeles to San Francisco $69
Flight time: 1/hr 25/mins
Train ticket $100,000,000,000 <- Carl Sagan billions & billions

Here's a money saving idea that I think most Californians would go for:
We give the union leaders 1 million dollars each, and no train will be built. And we'll even forget the idea came up.
Deal?

Got to hand it to Gov. Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown: a superduper high speed bullet train that runs from nowhere to noplace. A train that's slower than anticipated!
Who'd have thought all the billions of dollars spent (and programmed to be spent) and the Donkeys still can't get 19th century technology to work?

Is it any wonder that railroads played a major part in Atlas Shrugs?

I'd love to see the liberals pitch that fence as an ironclad deterrent while telling us no border fence will ever work.

High speed rail is like solar energy a scam to send money to state to fund and pay off other people or programs.

Probably for the best - who wants to be going high speed, on rails, in an area known for so many earthquakes?

Can someone do the math for me? What’s a 3hr10min trip between LA and SF, in terms of average mph?

If you like your train speed, you can keep your train speed.

Whats a 3hr10min trip between LA and SF, in terms of average mph? It depends.
If you start from L.A. and go NORTH, it's 380 miles in 190 min, that's 2 miles/min or 120 MPH.
If you start from L.A. and go SOUTH, it's 25000 miles in 190 min, that's 131 miles/min, or about 8000 MPH.

It won’t be as fast, but it will be three times more expensive.

Of course, the best part about this will be the precedent-setting strike by the drivers and crewmembers who haven’t even been hired yet but want better working conditions, pay, and benefits.

The only way the bullet train could work is if the tracks went out of California.
