Shades of Jackie Sherrill.

“Sherrill also achieved notoriety by having his team observe the castration of a bull as a motivational technique prior to a game versus Texas. Unranked Mississippi State subsequently beat the #13 ranked Longhorns”

Nobody can cut pork spending. It can’t be done. If you want the votes to get a piece of legislation enacted, you have to pony up. “You vote for Bill 2666, my bridge and I’ll vote for your bill 6147, building a military base in your (state or district).”

Anybody who even tries to change how things work will get buried by special interests. Reagan managed to cut the pork for people who voted against his issues, but defended his allies’ pork. That’s just how it works.

This is even better than the Republican the other day shooting Obamacare with an AR-15

Re your #7:

You’ve explained the problem well and it’s been in existence since we’ve had a congress. What’s the solution?

“What’s the solution?”

I don’t think there’s a single magic bullet. But term limits would help. (I have a friend who says every politician should serve two terms, one in office and another in prison.) But limiting everybody to two terms would help. THe problem is we have a permanent poltical class. It costs on average 10 million dollars to run a successful Senate campaingn and 3.1 million to run for the House. People don’t spend that kind of money without expecting a payback. They all get rich once they’re there.

Another thing that would help is if it said in the constitution that any law they make applies to them. Another thing would be to pass a law that nothing can be named for a politician until he has been dead 50 years. (A hundred years would be even better.) The Cynthia McKinney parkway comes to mind.

Another thing is no presidential libraries and no free office space for former politicians. Why should we give a lobbyist free office space. Another thing is to outlaw becoming a lobbyist after you leave office. Or, appointing a current or former lobbyist to office.

I’m sure that would all help. But, it won’t happen.

I heard her interviewed today... She says she has some more interesting commercials to run but, she won’t tip her hat to give away the surprise just yet.

Those things you suggested would indeed help but as you acknowledged, they won’t happen, at least not in my life time, I’m already 68 years old.

On the other hand, as an Illinois citizen, I’ve said since I’ve been here, (many times too), that Illinois would never have a concealed carry law, in my life time.

The way to change it is to change the rules in Congress to ban amendments to unrelated bills that include pork.

A bill to fund a military base shouldn’t include funding for a joggling path in Oregon, and shrimp treadmills in LA.

If they would all agree to change the rules to ban pork, then none of them could run on bringing home the pork.

I have the sense that America is poised on a cusp. We could go pure Soviet communist or we could perhaps go back to the relationship citizens had with the government in 1920. Perhaps we’ll just mildly step back from the precipice; defeat Obamacare and maybe get rid of one or two alphabet regulators. (I’d vote to delete the EPA.)

The problem is the government is too powerful. Any powerful organization becomes corrupted as people work their way into it and subvert its purpose to push their agenda. (Like global warming (redistribution) or one world government (more redistribution.) The Annenberg project is a perfect example. Walter Annenberg was a rich conservative and his foundation was to pursue those goals. Instead it financed Obama and his buddy Karl Ayers in their efforts to turn schools into communist training centers.

It can be done, but no one has the guts/gonads/leadership/vision/courage to do it. Here’s how it would work:

1. The Federal government could only spend...say 7% (?) of our combined gross incomes. So if you add up what we make in a year and and it comes to $100, the government can spend $7.00. No more.
2. No borrowing except for times of war, and only then by a 2/3 vote.
3. No deductions for the individual taxpayers except for charitable contributions.
4. EVERYONE pays, regardless of whether they make $1.00 a year or $1 billion a year.
