"The Five" are for legalizing Marijuana
March 13, 2014

Posted on 03/12/2014 3:19:06 PM PDT by NKP_Vet

Was just watching the show and they played a clip of Rick Perry saying that Texas has lowered fines for first time offense for marijuana use. So far he has not said he would legalize it. So the members went around the table and all but Beckel (recovering addict) said they were for legalizing marijuana. Dana Pirino said Texas might as well legalize it because Texans are coming into Colorado to legally smoke the stuff. She also said that if a republican wants to get a hand in an audience full of hipsters all they have to say is they are for legalizing marijuana. Guess that's the in thing now with some of these RINOs. They can all say they are "libertarian" when it comes to frying your brains on dope. So that's Gillfoyle, Pirino, the midget Gutfeld and Mr. Perfect Bohling, all saying they want to see more dope legalized. I'll post the link as soon as it's out. All four of this fakes call themselves conservatives. Prety bad when lefty Bob Beckel take the conservative position on legalizing dope.

That great conservative Bob Beckel is probably in favor of no-knock warrants for confiscating guns too.

You know they only rationalized it once someone came up with projections on how much more taxes they would collect...

Driving while drugged arrests have gone up in Washington State since the state legalized the mind-numbing recreation drug. It will only get worse.

I find that very hard to believe.

The ‘Fors’ in this debate said we need to pass this law to allow people to sit in the comfort of their home and smoke pot. They can’t relax if they are under threat of arrest if they go buy pot to take it home and smoke it. And why should those that have prescriptions for ‘medical(HA)’ MJ be shamed when they light up.

Of course you realize I am being very sarcastic here...

Y’know, I’ve never smoked pot, never even seen it, but I don’t quite get why people are so upset with this...isn’t it basically just like beer and whiskey?

Although, the prospect of your local Walmart selling marijuana cigarettes does seem bizarre!

Anyone favoring drug prohibition should be intellectually honest and tell everyone how they also support alcohol prohibition.

I've been a lifelong member of the church of Christ (except for a few years in the early 60s when I strayed, went hard left and joined the NAACP -- but that's a whole 'nother thread in itself). Most of us in the church aren't too keen on the many of the vices, notably drinking alcoholic beverages, but we value freedom first and would never support prohibition. So, that's some personal background, and as non-drinker myself, I have no problem with beer, wine and even the hard liquor. It's legal and alcohol was enjoyed by many of the Founding Fathers.

That said, I draw the line at drugs, yes, including marijuana. Both Ronald and Nancy Reagan were supporters of the war on drugs. They were right. And, I think these pictures capture the significant difference between alcohol compared to drugs and the type of people who use them:

I've pinged a few FReepers that I often engage in dialog to get their viewpoints. They may or may not agree with me but I always find their viewpoints thoughtful on what's likely to be hot-button issue.

legalizing weed is a big mistake . Penalties should not be draconian because it is not that serious of an issue , but it is a social detriment . The biggest problem is that it tends to turn people into Liberal voting progressive airheads

Gee, you call people a bunch of names, support low IQ thugs dressed like ninjas and armed with sub-machine guns raiding their homes, and you wonder why they won't throw in with you and yours on election day. Yeah, I wouldn't have seen that kind of reaction coming. [/sarcasm]

How about the first time bust for driving while drugged your license is revoked forever. Of course do the same with booze.
I am sick and damn tired of some drunk and now some dope-smoking freak crossing the center line and killing a family of five, then goes to court and some shyster lawyer gets him off with vehicular manslaughter and probation. How about life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Pols are caught in a quandry:

Keep it illegal and still get their under-the-table shares they can deposit in their off-shore bank accounts,

or

Make it legal so they can tax it.

intellectual honesty is something liberdopians do not understand. They talk about individual freedom just do not disagree or they will slime you and try to attribute other views to you.

I despise the phoneys on The 5...so glib, so with it, so condescending.

I watch Fat Ed. He’s a stinking liberal but at least he believes what he says.

Just as I’d never vote for any candidate even slightly wobbly on homo-marriage, I’d never vote for any candidate supporting legalization of dope.

I’m for it too, I don’t smoke the stuff, but have no problem with those that do

My stand is let the states decide, as the Founding Fathers intended.

When I was a kid back in the seventies, nobody(myself included) had a problem getting pot, or alcohol as an underage teenager.

The WOD is an joke, those who wished to fry their brains out on their drug of chose did it, whether legal or not.

I could see how Conservatives standing up for individual liberty instead of the Nanny State could be confusing.

Get enough dope in your system and you won't be standing up for anything.

Think it's good for you? Down a quart of Prestone. Sweet dreams, Toots.

How about life in prison with no possibility of parole.

That may be what it takes.

Look, I don't approve of drugs at all and I think they're a destroyer of society, but I've become disgusted [and fearful] at the loss of my own liberties because of the government's "war" against them. It hasn't worked but you and I are much less free because of it.

Only society can begin to reduce the drug problem. Government can't do it.

I did say “ not draconian “
crack down on the Mex cartel types and leave the passive locals alone .
As I once heard a judge say “ people think of marijuana as a victimless crime , but they do not see the issue from my perspective ; almost always linked in with other more detrimental drugs , other crimes and particularly domestic violence .

Send SWAT after the cartels is fine .
By the way , have you ever smelled a big grow of chronic ?
Road-kill skunk or some decomposing dead thing . How about people all over the place generating the smell of burning tires in public? The smell of tobbacy ain’t nuthin compared with the smell of the other stuff .
Relegate it to old folks ( and others ) that are dying , and who won’t be voting for long .
