California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa told Fox News Wednesday his House committee could move as early as next week to consider holding former IRS official Lois Lerner in contempt.
Lerner refused earlier in the day to testify on her role in the agency’s targeting of Tea Party and other conservative groups.
Her decision to plead the Fifth Amendment marked the second time in 10 months that she asserted her constitutional right not to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Affairs.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said of her refusal, “at some point Lerner must testify” or be held in contempt.
“Our committee will consider it,” Issa, the committee chairman, told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren on “On the Record.”
“We could consider it as early as next week.”

If found in Contempt the person can be arrested under a warrant of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, by the Sergeant at Arms.

Watching Issa, I see absolutely no passion in him. It’s like he is just reciting questions he thinks the people want him to ask, but without any conviction. Emotions are one of the most effective tools in a prosecutors arsenal and can go a long way in swaying opinion. Obviously, you want facts, but if the defendant isn’t giving them up, that’s no reason to just let them waltz out freely without at least tearing them a new one. I agree that Gowdy should be running this show.
I hope somebody knows how to get them to talk. Holding them in contempt is a good start, but it’s pretty toothless. Wasn’t Holder found in contempt? And did it affect him in any way or get him to turn over the documents? Not that I recall.
They need a Special Prosecutor, but I believe such a person would have to be appointed by ... Holder. So I don’t know what hope there is of that.
