Boy Suspended for Pointing Finger Like Gun
Newser ^ | 3/4/14 | Kate Seamons

America's kids have been suspended for pretending that pencils were guns, but an Ohio school may have topped that. A 10-year-old student at a Columbus elementary school was handed a three-day suspension for making a finger gun and pretending to shoot a classmate. The suspension letter more formally referred to his weapon as a "level 2 lookalike firearm," reports the Columbus Dispatch. Devonshire Alternative Elementary School's principal says students have been frequently told not to play pretend gun games, with a district rep saying kids were warned consequences would follow.

Those consequences hit hard last week for fifth-grader Nathan Entingh, who says he was "just playing around"; the rep said Nathan pretended to shoot another student "kind of execution style" in the head. And the "victim" didn't even see the mock execution, which was instead spotted by a teacher. Nathan's dad seems dumbfounded: "It would even make more sense maybe if he brought a plastic gun that looked like a real gun or something, but it was his finger." (Almost exactly a year ago, a Georgia teacher was suspended over a finger gun of his own.)

Speaking of crickets...

Got this in my email today:

Hello,

How are you doing? I am sorry for reaching you rather too late due to the situation of things right now..I'm stranded in Istanbul, Turkey and had my bag stolen from me with my passport, mobile phone and personal effects therein. It was a terrible experience for me thank God the embassy has just issued me a temporary passport but I have to pay for a ticket and settle my hotel bills with the Manager before leaving.

I have made contact with my bank but it would take me 3-5 working days to access funds in my account, the bad news is my flight will be leaving very soon and but i am having problems settling the hotel bills. Please let me know if i can count on you i promise to refund the money back as soon as i get back home

Regards,

It's supposedly from a guy I used to work with years ago...

Be sure to greet them with a cheery "wie geht es?" (pronounced "Vee Gates")

"OMG!! We're all gonna die!!! The glow is worming!!!"

No way. If the glow is worming, we wouldn't have to time to read Worm before the end. It's a long story, so the end has to be very, very, far off. Trust me.

I bought the supplies to make the chicken-bacon casserole, for Frank’s birthday next Tuesday.

I’m listening to my new Tiffany Poon CD, although it’s hard to hear over the background ruckus. DP will print yours once he buys more CDs; the ones at Walmart were inadequate because yadda yadda techstuff.

That casserole sounds so good! I’m dying to try it myself. Only 10 more days, and I can make a test run with it! Maybe I’ll get some more heavy cream, too, and make some chocolate mocha ice cream...

It would seem keeping heavy whippy cream on hand will be a Must Do in the future...

It's a long story...

Yes.

It is...

Like, if youi read one 'chapter' a day you would consume over two-thirds of the time required for this planet to circle the glowing gas-orb...

The Cubs made ice cream with half-and-half.

I think there are only a few cents difference in the price between heavy whippy cream and half and half. My mother always used half and half for everything that called for milk. She even used it on her oatmeal and in her coffee.

I just never think to buy it because I don’t drink that much coffee these days.

Some of the ice cream recipes call for half and half, or say you can use either. I want to be a purist in my later years, so I think I’ll start now! LOL!

I’d use cream if it was just a generalization.

and my Nook died.

Sorry to hear of the demise of the Nookthing. Howdit die?

Charger/battery quit? Innards gave up right after the smoke escaped? Godzilla stomped on the screen and it is indecipherable now? Humbleharry glanced in its general direction and its electronics turned into stone - you know, the Medusa effect?...

Of course, out of all those scenarios the only easily remedied one is a bad charger (don't know if Nooks batteries are replaceable. And all the other scenarios just leave you with a paperweight.. and frustration. ;-)

It’s all just conversation at this point. By the time I’m ready to buy it, I’ll be lucky if I can recall what the topic was! LOL!

I wish the Gate Guys would get here. I want to go to bed. My hips are really hurting.

The innards died. Or the battery, which is rechargeable up to a point. I mean, I charge it during the day and use it at night for games, mostly, and also use it as a computer when I’m away from home.

This is the second time this has happened. The first time, it was under warranty, but this time, I won’t be able to replace it. It looks like the same problem.

The charging icon on the USB cord indicates the unit is charged, but when I press the on/off switch, nothing happens. I miss it. I like to play solitaire when my mind is too out-to-lunch to concentrate on reading.
