Boy Suspended for Pointing Finger Like Gun
Newser ^ | 3/4/14 | Kate Seamons

America's kids have been suspended for pretending that pencils were guns, but an Ohio school may have topped that. A 10-year-old student at a Columbus elementary school was handed a three-day suspension for making a finger gun and pretending to shoot a classmate. The suspension letter more formally referred to his weapon as a "level 2 lookalike firearm," reports the Columbus Dispatch. Devonshire Alternative Elementary School's principal says students have been frequently told not to play pretend gun games, with a district rep saying kids were warned consequences would follow.

Those consequences hit hard last week for fifth-grader Nathan Entingh, who says he was "just playing around"; the rep said Nathan pretended to shoot another student "kind of execution style" in the head. And the "victim" didn't even see the mock execution, which was instead spotted by a teacher. Nathan's dad seems dumbfounded: "It would even make more sense maybe if he brought a plastic gun that looked like a real gun or something, but it was his finger." (Almost exactly a year ago, a Georgia teacher was suspended over a finger gun of his own.)

Dear al, I know you are a really swift person, but please try to keep up with the UT. (Then I can read your posts and keep up w/the UT!) C’mon—don’t you care about old people?

Well... it's something like this. 1 Kbytes is 1024 bytes. So 64k would be 65536.. and 65537 would always overflow a 64k stack. If you have a 64k pointer stack (to keep track of the posts) the max it could keep track of would be 65536 posts. Now, how much of that 64k is really usable for stack pointers and how much is kept for wiggle room, er, 'book keeping' is possibly up for grabs.

How many posts did it take to reach the end of the internet?

65,535 technically.
65,536 is kept as a pointer to the thread itself leaving the remainder for posts.
Unless the system burps, then post 65,534 is your max because a stack error ate the last one.

Yup.
Still trying to figure out what a “level 2 lookalike firearm” actually is, what kind of damage it does, and how they determine what is or isn’t such.

“level 2 lookalike firearm”

Middle finger instead of index finger was pointed?

Who knows.
In some jurisdictions, middle finger is an appropriate response to the school faculty but can be misconstrued as sexual harassment or an open invitation for unwanted attention.

what kind of damage it does..

Damage points are determined by the roll of a zero-sided die...

Am glad, for the fifth grader, he didn't pull out the fully automatic finger gun. The child would have been sentenced to life without parole.

Hope the weather has warmed over your way. Still cold over here.

I still say it is a D5 die and the damage points are psi damage.

But is as lethal as the potato gun? Poor child. No fun if can't have the fully automatic rubber band chain cannon or potato gun. Is against the law apparently to be a child and learn beyond the finger gun pointing.
