Boy Suspended for Pointing Finger Like Gun
Newser ^ | 3/4/14 | Kate Seamons

America's kids have been suspended for pretending that pencils were guns, but an Ohio school may have topped that. A 10-year-old student at a Columbus elementary school was handed a three-day suspension for making a finger gun and pretending to shoot a classmate. The suspension letter more formally referred to his weapon as a "level 2 lookalike firearm," reports the Columbus Dispatch. Devonshire Alternative Elementary School's principal says students have been frequently told not to play pretend gun games, with a district rep saying kids were warned consequences would follow.

Those consequences hit hard last week for fifth-grader Nathan Entingh, who says he was "just playing around"; the rep said Nathan pretended to shoot another student "kind of execution style" in the head. And the "victim" didn't even see the mock execution, which was instead spotted by a teacher. Nathan's dad seems dumbfounded: "It would even make more sense maybe if he brought a plastic gun that looked like a real gun or something, but it was his finger." (Almost exactly a year ago, a Georgia teacher was suspended over a finger gun of his own.)

They have some level of tech support. A call in number that only goes to voicemail, and an email system that has response time measured in hours to days. Perhaps they occasionally respond to voicemail?

That being said, as I assemble the machine, I am appreciating the designers more and more. For such a cheap machine, it is well thought out, carefully designed, and makes good use of off the shelf components.

Can’t hardly wait to fire it up!

Stock up on almonds

90% of the world’s almonds come from the San Joaquin valley.

The federal government has cut off the water to central valley farmers. (Gotta save the Delta Smelt, doncha know?)

Last time I drove on 5, I saw entire groves of dead almond trees ripped out by the roots.

Communists just love their little famines...

I’m here. On the Nook again. I’m washing clothes, though I could have waited another few days.

So far I’m doing OK. I realized last night that I hae dealt with angina for so long that I think it will pass. The thing is that the angina has morphed into something more sinister, and that I need to make appropriate changes in dealing with it.

Did Piper allow herself to be found? Huskies are air heads when left alone outside. The late lamented Rusty got loose one night and it was three days before we found him...in the back of the dog catcher’s truck.

Kitteh looks a little bit like our Muffin Cat. He (yeah, we named him too soon) passed on January 27, 1997.

He had that same coloration with the little hints of brown amongst the gray and white, and a spotted tummy.

No, not yet. There's a lot of woods out there! I emailed the county Animal Control, so they know who to call if she's turned in. Anoreth and Bill are putting up signs. She's not going to wander up to someone and say, "Don't you love dogs?" like Ash would, and anyway, she didn't have tags on even before she lost her collar. Maybe someone will think they've seen a wolf and then say, "Wait, didn't I see that sign about a lost husky?"

Jake has the spots on his underside, too, but all in shades of brown.

Wow. I hope she isn’t too far away. It’s so disheartening to lose a dog, even for just a while. Has Piper been chipped?

Yes, she’s been chipped. I suppose reading the chip would connect them to the breeder, who could contact Anoreth, who would let us know.

There’s plenty of area nearby for her to enjoy the wild life. Hopefully she’ll eventually get hungry and go near enough to people that someone will call the county.

Animal Control emailed to say they got the information. That’s all they can do unless she’s picked up or seen and reported.

You can do it ,Nully.
It is just a 3D control system coupled with a laser printer, on steroids.
Look at the instructions today, leave the job until tomorrow.
Your subconscious will sort out all the problems as you sleep. Trust me said the maroon.

It is tomorrow! I need to wander out and get some crazy glue and Loc-tite Blue.

The thing doesn't come with an on/off switch...

Ah I see, welcome to today. :D
no on/off switch...there may be a reason for that.
China uses 240v you’re on 110v...Careful with any transformer settings.
Leaving the switch out gives thinking time...or they plain forgot to include it.

I've had that happen. Sometimes I dream whole conversations in Spanish, and then the next day, I can sort out whatever the issue is with correct verb conjugations and everything.

Animal Control called. Piper has been spotted, and they're in pursuit.
