Boy Suspended for Pointing Finger Like Gun
Newser ^ | 3/4/14 | Kate Seamons

Posted on 03/04/2014 8:26:45 AM PST by Impala64ssa

America's kids have been suspended for pretending that pencils were guns, but an Ohio school may have topped that. A 10-year-old student at a Columbus elementary school was handed a three-day suspension for making a finger gun and pretending to shoot a classmate. The suspension letter more formally referred to his weapon as a "level 2 lookalike firearm," reports the Columbus Dispatch. Devonshire Alternative Elementary School's principal says students have been frequently told not to play pretend gun games, with a district rep saying kids were warned consequences would follow.

Those consequences hit hard last week for fifth-grader Nathan Entingh, who says he was "just playing around"; the rep said Nathan pretended to shoot another student "kind of execution style" in the head. And the "victim" didn't even see the mock execution, which was instead spotted by a teacher. Nathan's dad seems dumbfounded: "It would even make more sense maybe if he brought a plastic gun that looked like a real gun or something, but it was his finger." (Almost exactly a year ago, a Georgia teacher was suspended over a finger gun of his own.)

In this recipe you nuke the whipping cream just to boiling, pour over the choc. chips, and whisk until melted and shiny. This is the top layer.

You’re a smart guy, Nully. I’m sure that you’ll get it all figured out and ship shape in no time.

Sorry you lost your ink supply in your 2D printer. Always keep spare printer cartridges.

I don’t know who writes assembly manuals for things like this, but I’ve never seen one that
I didn’t have to noodle out at least some of it for myself.

Best wishes and good luck, my dear friend.

I’m still married, too. 25+ years. Not a grandmother yet, though. Would you like a wine and cheese basket for Easter?

instructions are on line. 58 pages. Guess who’s printer just ran out of ink. Instructions are internally self inconsistent and badly spelt.

You suppose that just maybe English is not the primary language of the person who did the translation???

Hey, you're lucky. They could have left it in Mandarin. ;-)

Just make sure it includes one of these...

I'm making pretty good progress. The instructions are incomplete, but fairly well written, except for the details they leave out.

There's also a whole section or two missing. *sigh*

I speak a few words and courtesy phrases of Mandarin and can read a dozen or so ideograms and puzzle out maybe a score more.

These instructions were written in Southren...

Did I mention that some of the assembly steps are out of order?

Missing details, instruction pagess, parts, sanity, and the other half of the six pack are in an area protected by, vell, these:

...and they, um, vite.

written in Southren...

Southern what?

Oh wait. You said Southren. That's different. They're unintelligible there and the transcriptions have gaps. That explains it...

Oh good grief. My heart bleeds for you, dear Nully. I suppose tech support is out of the question?

Keep us posted. Some of us want to see you successfully assemble the printer, and some of us want
to see you suffer through the attempt.

The epic story of null and void’s 3D printer assembling may become a Free Republic meme.

There you go, getting all famous again. ;-)

Good morning! Chainsaw ate breakfast and is currently drifting off beside me on the futon. Incidentally, they’re not making coffee like they used to. I have one or two cups and then go back to sleep. What’s with that?

I’m not sure. I don’t fall asleep again until after lunch, usually, so maybe my coffee cup is bigger.

The lovely Piper is missing. She slipped her chain during a walk after supper yesterday, and DP and Elen didn’t see her anywhere around the neighborhood. Not that it would have helped if they did, because they couldn’t catch her. I was at a church meeting until 9:00 and missed the whole thing.

Anoreth and Bill (whom she likes) can look for her once it gets light. The first birds are just waking up.

Funny—I have no trouble with chocolate. The only time it ever seized on me was when I somehow dropped water into it. (I ate all of my errors and miscalculations so no harm done except to my clothing size.) Thank you for info—I will attempt candy as soon as I get ingredients.

I suppose they’ll have to put signs up, because she’s not going to walk up to someone and let them read the phone number off her tag, the way Ash would have done. Maybe she’ll recognize Anoreth’s car if she drives around.

How old is Chainsaw now?
