Boy Suspended for Pointing Finger Like Gun
Newser ^ | 3/4/14 | Kate Seamons

America's kids have been suspended for pretending that pencils were guns, but an Ohio school may have topped that. A 10-year-old student at a Columbus elementary school was handed a three-day suspension for making a finger gun and pretending to shoot a classmate. The suspension letter more formally referred to his weapon as a "level 2 lookalike firearm," reports the Columbus Dispatch. Devonshire Alternative Elementary School's principal says students have been frequently told not to play pretend gun games, with a district rep saying kids were warned consequences would follow.

Those consequences hit hard last week for fifth-grader Nathan Entingh, who says he was "just playing around"; the rep said Nathan pretended to shoot another student "kind of execution style" in the head. And the "victim" didn't even see the mock execution, which was instead spotted by a teacher. Nathan's dad seems dumbfounded: "It would even make more sense maybe if he brought a plastic gun that looked like a real gun or something, but it was his finger." (Almost exactly a year ago, a Georgia teacher was suspended over a finger gun of his own.)

ALL pans work better with just butter or lard. Nothing else works as well.

I don't go to the trouble of baking.

I simply smear large amounts of peanut butter on chocolate bars, dark or milk.

Chocolate and peanut butter is better than bacon. Word.

So, which one is for dessert? S’mores or bacon?

I hate marshmallows. Always have, so no s'mores for me.

Tragic, considering the hundreds of campfires I've sat around.

True.
But non-stick should work as adverted.
Some non-stick pans burn butter too easily for some reason.

I don’t like marshmallows either, so it would appear that bacon is the dessert du jour! I LIKE it!

Chocolate and grahams, yes...my favorite way to OD is on chocolate covered grahams dipped in a cup of hot coffee...decadent...to DIE for...

Most people think ads for metal bakeware will deliver as proposed.

I’m here to tell you what I learned from my dear departed mum: Low heat. If you have to cook something over a fire (electric or gas) keep the heat low. The butter/margarine or lard/shortening/oil does a better job at low heat. If the heat is high enough to smoke, it WAY TOO high.

Cooking with coconut oil is better for you, but because it smokes at medium heat, whatever you cook in it will be healthier because you won’t cook the essential nutrients out of it.

I’m always telling the kids to turn the gas down.

No, we need the ramp for one of us. I’m certain we have very physically fit purple martins in TN. Good point, though.

If they ever get into a cooking class, they will learn that less is better.

As for cooking at home, high heat does nothing but stink up the kitchen.

Crazy Frank came and “fixed” my gate today, but I couldn’t even pay him in “the coin of the realm,” which is beer to Frank.

My sister told me of her find at a thrift store...a Pashmina shawl for $3. I am so envious...she said it was a “Value Village” store, and that the quality was good while the prices were very reasonable. I will have to find one close to me.

Gagro sounds like some villain.

Or somebody with a tongue depressor stuck in back of his mouth. Can you visualize it in the circus? "Step right up, ladies and gentlemen and children of all ages, and see ...."

I didn’t have time to really look through The Salvation Army this afternoon, since I had James and Vlad with me. I saw a dress that I might have tried on, but it had a stain on the front. They had lots of wedding dresses in stock, for some reason.

YEs, it’s always nice to avoid a trip to the corner clinic.

Anoreth is here with the lovely Piper, annoying the cats. I’m going to get them some blankets and then go to bed!

It would seem, after checking it all out, that I AM going to “Value Village” in the guise of “Savers,” so I think I’m probably getting the best I can get for the money I spend. They have a “senior day” with 20% off, but I so seldom have the money, I don’t know when the other discounts are.

(If there is a stain on something you buy that needs to be dry cleaned, you can find a “Dry-El” thingy at Walmart. The initial package is well worth the cost.)

I didn’t even go through the aisles I wanted to, when last I was there...*sigh* ...they have so many things I want and might be able to afford if I were independently wealthy...

Oh my goodness, they look scrumptious! I have a chocolate cake mix. I wonder how a sheet cake would be with those two toppings.... Thank you for posting!
