Boy Suspended for Pointing Finger Like Gun
Newser ^ | 3/4/14 | Kate Seamons

America's kids have been suspended for pretending that pencils were guns, but an Ohio school may have topped that. A 10-year-old student at a Columbus elementary school was handed a three-day suspension for making a finger gun and pretending to shoot a classmate. The suspension letter more formally referred to his weapon as a "level 2 lookalike firearm," reports the Columbus Dispatch. Devonshire Alternative Elementary School's principal says students have been frequently told not to play pretend gun games, with a district rep saying kids were warned consequences would follow.

Those consequences hit hard last week for fifth-grader Nathan Entingh, who says he was "just playing around"; the rep said Nathan pretended to shoot another student "kind of execution style" in the head. And the "victim" didn't even see the mock execution, which was instead spotted by a teacher. Nathan's dad seems dumbfounded: "It would even make more sense maybe if he brought a plastic gun that looked like a real gun or something, but it was his finger." (Almost exactly a year ago, a Georgia teacher was suspended over a finger gun of his own.)

I really like this one. The leprechaun is grinning and inebriated. I feel like a party just waiting to happen.

Well, I hope it does!

I need to get the Offspring out of bed now, sigh. It’s so quiet with just me, Shannon, Dragonbaby, and the Northern Mockingbird ...

In other exciting news, there have been two fluffy little birds on the bird feeder—one has a bright red head. Finally! The mockingbirds seem to be here year round, but I haven’t looked up what to feed them yet. Putting up purple martin houses someday is the plan, but we have to build a ramp first.

We saw our first hummingbird a couple of days ago.

Is this Tuesday? If so, have fun at Weight Watchers. P.S. If you wear the black skirt, what will you pair it with? The silver top is kind of dressy....

No, today is Wednesday. My prayer group is meeting. I think I’ll wear the black skirt with the blue blouse and the set of sparkly blue jewelry. That will make me think of Asuncion (who made the jewelry) and that will make me happy.

If you're trying to attract geriatric purple martins, they may not be as effective at insect predation.

I was thinking that myself, visualizing the purple martins wheeling themselves up the ramp. They must have electric motors on their chairs, since they don’t have opposable thumbs ...

Good medical news here - the cat-drool infection on Sally’s arm is subsiding. I drew a circle around the plaque with a marker last night to observe the change, and it’s definitely smaller and less elevated today. I was prepared to take her to the corner clinic for an antibiotic shot this afternoon, but now I won’t have to.

Probably an indication that the DNA has been successfully modified.

If she starts being able to see in the dark, it could even be a positive benefit.

Excellent point. She already wants to spend most of the day lying in bed or on the floor, so perhaps she had a natural susceptibility.

Two of my ancestors were on the Mayflower, but I had this information before Ancestry.com. In 2004, my neighbor is Tucson asked me to do his genealogy, and I found that we had common ancestors: a male in both families married women from other a common source...the two original ancestors.

[Ironically, the male at 17, was an indentured “servant” (slave) who was swept overboard during a storm. As the ship wallowed, he was caught in the rigging of one of the masts and was brought back aboard...true story. It’s in the captain’s log from the Mayflower.]

So my Tucson neighbor and I are shirt-tail cousins. From the Mayflower, it was just a matter of copying all my information to his genealogy. And I need to get back to it, to...there must be more to find, by now...

As for the resident slimeball, the only time he’s quiet is when he’s asleep. The rest of the time he is a lying, nasty, evil, wicked little man who hasn’t ever had the truth in him. He worked with the mob for years...http://www.futurnamics.com/reid.php

Typo’d “aggro” which was short for Aggravating.

But Gagro sounds like some villain.

I liked it!

I like the costumes and the weeds in the hair! LOL!

I’ve decided to get rid of my dining table next week, and the china hutch soon after, trying to give me more room and less stuff.

I’m going to box up a lot of the stuff that’s in the hutch and donate it along with the hutch and the table. The table will go first, though. I will call and have it picked up Monday or Tuesday.

To make up for the loss of a table, as soon as I get some money that has no place to go (ha-ha) I will get a couple of wooden TV trays at Walmart.
