In other exciting news, there have been two fluffy little birds on the bird feeder—one has a bright red head. Finally! The mockingbirds seem to be here year round, but I haven’t looked up what to feed them yet. Putting up purple martin houses someday is the plan, but we have to build a ramp first.

"Putting up purple martin houses someday is the plan, but we have to build a ramp first." If you're trying to attract geriatric purple martins, they may not be as effective at insect predation.
