As the debate brews over whether Republicans will take up the task of pushing through immigration reform, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday said he is hopeful Republicans will put something forward.
"I have not given up hope that we would act and we must act," McCain said on "State of the Union" with Candy Crowley.
"In states like mine, the demographics will only overtake and throughout the whole southwest," McCain said referencing the Hispanic vote he said Republicans need to win a national election.
McCain stood by his past comments that Republicans would not be able to win another election race without reform.

Shut up and go chase after some Syrian Christians, McCain.
Come on Juan! Mow your own lawn!
Dear John, piss off.
I guess enforcing existing law is out of the question, has been for some time.
The last amnesty didn’t help Republicans.
Another one will only hurt them worse.
Freaking idiots.
Or both.
It’s insulting to multiple groups to say the only way Hispanic voters can be pleased is to reward them for breaking the law.
McCain is insane.
And the staffer he sent to work as Boehner’s Amnesty Czar, Becky Tallent has all the gravitas of Brittany Spears.

McCain you clueless bimbo.
I completely supported you in 2008, when you appointed Ms. Palin as your running mate.
That was a bold and inspired choice. However your decisions since have turned me very cold.
I no longer support John McCain. I want him to be defeated.
I understand Palin still supports him.
I no longer support him.
America cannot continue to sell out to foreigners.
America needs to build up America.
McCain doesn't have a state. He's a permanent resident of DC.
“McCain stood by his past comments that Republicans would not be able to win another election race without reform.”
So immigration policy is about “race reform”. What the hell does that even mean?
Typical beltway RINO politician. It’s always about pandering to the lowest common denominator.
When McCain says ANYTHING about ‘reason’, ‘reasonable’, ‘bipartisan’, ‘comprehensive’, ‘reform’ or any of those code words, he means CAPITULATION EVEN BEFORE CONFRONTATION.
He is a coward and an abject traitor even given the sacrifices he made for his country DECADES ago.
He is completely insane in my opinion. He allows himself to be puppeted by terrorists and this administration in more examples that one can recount in brevity.
Exactly why the people of Arizona choose him to represent them as one of the two Senate representatives in this Union confounds me completely.
Or what, the border will continue to be unsecured, and we will continue to not care about illegals in our midst?
Can I ask a stupid question?
How is it that our immigration system is broken? We have many laws on the books which we don’t even enforce. Yet we have politicos of both parties, saying our system is broken, and needs fixing. Many hint at, or say out loud, that an amnesty should be done.
My stupid question is why we need some massive reform of a broken system, when part of the reason people think it’s broken is because we don’t enforce the laws already on the books.
To paraphrase liberals on Obamacare, the immigration laws we have on the books are the law of the land, and if we only enforced them, the immigration situation might be far different than it is now. If only we had the political will to enforce the laws.
Nowadays, we make up laws and policies as we go along, based on political correctness, not on what the actual text of a law says.
The GOP will win national elections when it has the right policies, not from pandering. Pandering is the specialty of the Democrats.
Can someone, please, drop John off - from a plane, on his head - down in Chihuahua, where he’d feel more at home?
Yeah, lets start by deporting McCain.
What did the 1987 amnesty do for the GOP in the elections?
