Union Suffers Big Loss at Tennessee VW Plant Volkswagen workers rejected the UAW by a vote of 712 to 626.

The United Auto Workers union suffered a crushing defeat Friday, falling short in an election in which it seemed to have a clear path to organizing workers at Volkswagen AG VOW3.XE +1.10% 's plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The setback is a bitter defeat because the union had the cooperation of Volkswagen management and the aid of Germany's powerful IG Metall union, yet it failed to win a majority among the plants 1,550 hourly workers.

President Obie said yesterday republicans were more interested in the German shareholders than the American workers. Last night the American workers said they were more interested in their own wallets than the wallets of the union bosses. FWIW; Chattanooga historically is very liberal friendly.

How to Identify Legal Plunder
But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime.
Then abolish this law without delay, for it is not only an evil itself, but also it is a fertile source for further evils because it invites reprisals. If such a law — which may be an isolated case — is not abolished immediately, it will spread, multiply, and develop into a system.
The person who profits from this law will complain bitterly, defending his acquired rights. He will claim that the state is obligated to protect and encourage his particular industry; that this procedure enriches the state because the protected industry is thus able to spend more and to pay higher wages to the poor workingmen.
Do not listen to this sophistry by vested interests. The acceptance of these arguments will build legal plunder into a whole system. In fact, this has already occurred. The present-day delusion is an attempt to enrich everyone at the expense of everyone else; to make plunder universal under the pretense of organizing it.
Legal Plunder Has Many Names
Now, legal plunder can be committed in an infinite number of ways. Thus we have an infinite number of plans for organizing it: tariffs, protection, benefits, subsidies, encouragements, progressive taxation, public schools, guaranteed jobs, guaranteed profits, minimum wages, a right to relief, a right to the tools of labor, free credit, and so on, and so on. All these plans as a whole — with their common aim of legal plunder — constitute socialism.

This is bigger than it seems. I believe this was the opening salvo in the “workers of the world unite” bid to form a giant, worldwide behemoth. This is a major setback for the unions.
The union’s response that “outside influence’s” contributed to the out come, made me want to roll on the floor in fits of laughter.

Obama's interjection in the war of words on Friday, albeit behind closed doors, underscored how much is stake in the three-day vote by VW's 1,550 hourly workers. The vote is due to end at 8:30 p.m. ET and the results could be announced soon after that.
A loss could accelerate the decline in membership, now at just under 400,000 from a peak of 1.5 million. It also would reinforce the widely held notion that the UAW cannot make significant inroads in a region that historically has been steadfastly anti-union. Virtually every state in the U.S. South has passed right-to-work legislation that gives workers the choice of joining a union and paying union dues.

Alarm bells are going off for labor unions around the country.
Four years after electing the most pro-labor president of the last half-decade, it looks like the scheme has backfired.
In 2008 and 2012 labor unions used everything, including a little body English, ballot stuffing and voter intimidation to elect a president who would bring the prestige of presidential backing to recruitment efforts for labor unions.
Since then not only have labor unions taken historic defeats in former union strongholds, like Wisconsin and Michigan, labor union membership is declining at a rate that will make them a footnote in the annals of history if the steady decline in membership keeps up at the current pace.
“The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released statistics Jan. 23 that confirm an alarming drop in unionization,” writes Denver Labor attorney Bill Berger in the Denver Business Journal, “especially in private (nongovernmental) workplaces…. BLS statistics show unions lost 400,000 members in America last year. In 2011, 11.8 percent of all workers were union. That dropped to 11.3 percent in 2012.”
“We’re getting destroyed,” said MNBC’s hilariously-named “business” expert and Democrat, pro-union candidate Krystal Ball about labor unions.
And yes, I understand “Krystal Ball” is her real name, but there are cool real names- like Johnny Ransom- and ones that make you sound like a stripper, like, um Krystal Ball.
If you can manage to watch past her eyebrows moving up and down to highlight her sincerity and the drippy, syrupy, plastic rhetoric …well, anyway, you can see the video below.

He blames outside influences on their loss. Then we read a couple paragraphs down:
The Chattanooga workers had been courted steadily for nearly two years by both the UAW and the IG Metall union...
Seems to me the United Awful Workers and IG Metall engaged in the same kind of politically motivated influence with their "courting".
I guess it's OK for them to engage in attempts at influencing the workers to vote for their miserable union, but it's not OK for anyone to attempt to influence the workers to vote against it. It gives me a headache just trying to follow these creatures logic.
