SAN DIEGO Republican City Councilman Kevin Faulconer defeated Democratic Councilman David Alvarez in the San Diego mayors race Tuesday night.
Faulconer had 55.2 percent compared to Alvarezs 44.8 percent with 86 percent of the city's precincts counted.
A jubilant Faulconer gave a speech to his supporters about 10:40 p.m. but stopped short of declaring victory.
We know that this city has gone through a lot in the last year, but we knew that as San Diegans that we were better than that and that we were going to come together when we had the opportunity to do that and come to together we have, Faulconer said.

You’re right, couldn’t have turned out any better. But let’s not count on that happening again next time, since 99 times out of 100 the dirty RAT will get to serve out his term.
Wow...
And all this time, I though “Republicanus Californiatus” was an extinct breed!!!
This is good news!
Fieldmarsahldj, although I have been repeatedly be solicited to provide support to Carl, to date I have declined to do so. However, I disagree that Carl is a RINO on economic issues. A RINO does not lead the fight for public pension reform and take on the municipal unions as Carl did.
That very well may be. But the central problem with DeMaio, as with all openly-declared homosexuals, is that they define themselves by their sexual orientation above all else (even when they claim they don’t). There’s no room for moral issues in their world, it is too repressive to them (and he clearly supports false marriage). If he gets elected to Congress, it won’t be DeMaio, the “fiscal Conservative” gets elected, it’s DeMaio, the homosexual Republican gets elected. Fiscal Conservatism must run with Social/Moral Conservatism, because being a liberal on either undermines the other.
Smiling!
Yes it is great news!
Thank you so much for My HOME TOWN SAN DIEGO PING!
Wow! He won by a nice margin also. I’d heard sometime back that San Diego was one of the few Republican bastions in the land of fruits and nuts. I think next season, I’m gonna root for the Chargers; unless they’re playing the Houston Texans or my KC Chiefs.
Did Faulconer suck up to the Hispanic vote

To: Count of Monte Fisto - ALL politicians suck up to someone or some group. I bet Rand Paul is one of your boys, and he sucked up to that bastard Mitch McConnell by endorsing him over Matt Bevin. And, I don’t want to hear his lame excuse that he endorsed McConnell before anyone else was running. If that’s not a lie, it’s freakin’ stupid at best. He was SUCKING UP to McConnell because he wants his help in his run for Prez in 2016.
How conservative is Faulconer? The majority of GOP mayors-past, present, and, unfortunately, future-are/were/will be RINOS.
Are you suggesting they would have been better off with very liberal Dem?
Because on FR, it seems the perfect is usually the enemy of the good....
How many recounts?
Rand Paul is not my boy. I don’t like what he has to say about Amnesty at all. I won’t vote for him for President but he is a thousand times better then most of the mooks in the Senate.
Faulconer and his supporters targeted moderates and independents with their campaign advertising, assuming that he would win a large percentage of the Republican electorate with little effort. He even used blue campaign signs traditionally a color for Democrats offered a bipartisan message and rarely mentioned his Republican affiliation.
Please provide a list of major Texas cities that don’t have a homo pride day parade so we can visit them...last I checked, Texas isn’t immune from that disease either so you’re ponitificating on the matter is like throwing stones in a glass house.
Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!
If you want on or off this ping list, please FReepmail me.
Please! In Kalifornia, the large municipalities and elected officials are virtually REQUIRED to participate in homo-"pride" events, as well as city staff with city equipment. Ask the fire fighters who were commanded to ride in a parade and were subjected to lewd, unconscionable behavior by participants.
This is NOT the norm in Texas.
Your gratuitous cheap shots about CA don’t go unnoticed...and on a thread discussing where the good guys in CA win one...thanks, it’s really appreciated.
And now you want to move the goalposts so to speak.
It’s like this, the so-called perfect and almighty state of Texas isn’t exempt from any of the same ailments afflicting the rest of the United States, some better, some worse.
So do us all a favor, get off your high horse and start acting like a decent human being around others of like mind here on FR.
You just might find that Californians are a civil and decent bunch of folks if not provoked.
Hopefully this will be a portent of things to come for November!
Those were not ‘cheap shots’ at California. They were accurate observations that are readily validated.
